Curious Itch by The Geez
When it comes to the form of rock, past and present, who else can we really trust but The Geez? This guy presents music typically geared for Fox Racing and Mountain Dew ads the way it was meant to be: hard, raw, untainted by commercial interruptions… and did I saw hard and raw?
This bruiser opens with a humming guitar before it sets the garage on fire with Static X’s thumping “Bleed For Days”. The mixing, considering the limitations of the genre, is nothing short of brilliant; it’s as if each band is playing in the same room, carrying the same beat. Metallica gets the Kitty howling introduction, taking a classic and reinvigorating it with a modern sense of life. Alice In Chains carries a more harmonic tone until, “When Worlds Wollide” demonstrates what Franz Ferdinand would do if Maralyn Manson had the mic.
The Reflux instrumental adds a hypnotic alternative to the quality vocals we’ve experienced thus far by emphasizing more on the rhythm section. The James Bond theme shows up here, as glamerous and hard-rockin’ as ever, carrying on the intense instrumental aspect of the mix until we’re left at “The Machine”.
Curious Itch showcases Modern Rock with attitude, confidence, and a clear understanding of what made the genre significant to begin with. It’s just long enough to hammer out some decent riffs, and just short enough to keep you wanting more. America, call your local radio station and have The Geez sworn in as Ambassador of Rock immediatly.
