Wow! Great cover, great title, so bound to be a great mix. Is the painting Sugar Ray Leonard as seen when lying on your back on the canvas with a broken nose? 😉
cheers hp
As you may know, I like themed sample-based mixes so this got my attention right away, and deservedly so. A lot of work obviously went into this, and parts of it (especially the opening section) worked really well indeed.
Some great samples, and well arranged with a good narrative in places(where do you get them from?!). The Dubbya scratching was innovatative, although I felt (like in the real world) he was overexposed in places.
I didn’t always enjoy the music though, and wasn’t sure it always complemented the the samples: I’m thinking of the eurotechno around the 10 minute mark and the dark techno at 37ish, as well as some of the folkier stuff.
That said, overall it’s a fine achievement – keep it up.
Well said, Mr. Lovely, on every point. I would have loved to use some of your “How Much Time Do We Have” in some parts, but I wasn’t sure that would’ve been alright. Thanks for listening and your insight.
Cheers fella – don’t be shy about asking next time – I’d be more than happy to share the source samples of any bits you need, or flattered if you chose to sample the final mix. Please email me at markrlove AT hotmail dot com if ever you get stuck, although be warned that I might ask that you return the favour!
i’m with the love on this one – your use of samples always astounds, but some of the tunes i wasn’t really feeling (the trancey numbers). that said, there’s a good vibe to the mix and without the tunes i’m not into, it was a winner 🙂

That’s funny, HP. And I bet there have been many who have experienced Sugar Ray from that vintage point. No–mos, No–Mos.
The cover was painted by Bill Wrigley, and was my motivation for the mix. I hope you enjoy.
Peace.
