Wow. What a mix some of these tracks really take me back, whatever happened to the Big Beat Boutique. Some people slate Fatboy Slim but I think alot of his early stuff rocks. Especially the Chemistry album, soul surfing kicks ass too. Cheers for this fella, made me want to dig through all my old skint records. Nice one.
I for one dig all of his work, and yeah… big beat is so undeservingly out of the spotlight or at least a good place among the current trends…
I mean, when evb. is takin’ that minimal schminimal stuff and… anyway, I’m doin’ my stuff & bringin’ this stuff to whoever likes to listen to my mixes.
Check out also If you really want (to rock) the funky beats and It just won’t do without if you haven’t already.
I’m sure I heard the jungle brothers around the Bassbin Twins track or is it me?
I think you’re reffering to the “This whole situation is gettin’ outta control” bit, right? That’s Martin Lawrence from Bad Boys. I slipped that one in for effect. Guess it worked.
i have to say i quite enjoyed this and didn’t expect to! 🙂 big beat got a bit much at the time, but there’s some good stuff here – to be honest a lot sounds like straight up dirty house in places. anyway, enough rambling – decent mixing and a party vibe – nailed it!
I, for one, loved and still do love big beat and this mix hit the spot. some cracking tunes in there and I do see Len’s point about it being dirty house in places… not saying that’s an issue though, just quite surprising how ‘housey’ big beat was at times.

You’re both right, of course it’s more than big beat in there, it’s just that I use ‘big beat’ whenever I speak of Norm’s work, so it just comes natural for me to say so.
I try to emulate as a style (and put my own in it) his Fatboy persona style of mixing, that’s from tracklist to mixing technique (long way to go there, I knooow…) to vibe & flow. And he does combine a lot more in his sets than just his productions (which fall into big beat – that’s for sure) & more so lately.
Anyway I’m trying, and I’m happy 🙂 i hit it with this one. I do feel it’s my best one so far… of course there were a few beats here & there that I was just about holdin’ on to them, but overall I’m quite glad with how this one came out.
I think my next one, if I’m not gonna make X-mass mix (that remains to be seen – as of I still have to gather the tunes for it & be different as well) it’s gonna feature some of the other big ones like the Chemical Bro’s, Crystal Method & The Prodigy.
Nice work Mike, I’m in the process of trying to catch up with as many of the mixes on here as possible and I’m slowly working my way through em’.
The mixing on this is totally nailed, no beats a miss anywhere and the result is total fluency from start to finish.
Wasn’t sure I was going to like the ‘Sexiest Man In Jamaica’ remix but I was pleasantly surprised.
Pretty sure that the guy in that Tim Deluxe record is the same guy from the Audio Bullys – maybe I’m mistaken, sounded like him though.
Anyway, all in all a solid mix. Thanks!
Cheers Tom, glad you liked it. Yeah, wasn’t sure about Sexiest Man in Jamaica either before I heard it, ’cause that’s just such a damn good tune but it turned out allright.
And yes, Simon Franks & Tom Dinsdale make up Audio Bullys.
The flow is something that I try to watch closely so yeah, I’m pleased with this one.
Thank you!
In other news saturday was shapin’ up to be a crappy day as I couldn’t go see the Scorpions – was workin’ a private party, but as it turned out almost 4 hours of it we were rockin’ man!
And I mean Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Guns’n’Roses … you name it… So didn’t turn out such a bad day after all. 🙂
Who said big beat is gone?
