From his sublimely romantic efforts to his surreal dreamscapes that flash against nightmarish visions, Tom Waits is an artist to be reckoned with both lyrically and musically.
Sweet dreams tonight kids!

Only ever having heard bits of Tom Waits music, never been able to form a proper opinion on him.
My boss at work is a massive fan & bangs on about him frequently.
So I came to this little mix, eager to hear if theres summat for me to grab hold of.
WOW!! Powerful stuff. Not at all what I think I expected.
It rocks. Which I didnt expect?
Prolly shouldnt say this but back in the day I was a big fan of the good Captain, & the similarities are there for all to see.
But theres nowt wrong with that is there ?
Gonna put this on again right now.
Great work Geez. Thank you for enlightening me.
And maybe some others too.
😉

Thanks for the comments!
These cuts are from the “Blue Valentine” and “Mule Variations” albums.
There’s some that likes him and there’s some that don’t . . . and it’s all alright!
*growls: “don’t have a husband. he don’t play the trombone.”
Neatly showcasing both sides of Tom Waits, the noisy, twisted bluesy, Beefhearty side and the tearjerking romantic side, this is a good introduction to someone I consider a genius, but I shouldn’t have listened to it at work – I mean tearjerking literally, I find it hard to listen to songs like “House Where Nobody Lives” without blubbing! Might have to listen to “Mule Variations” tonight I think (partly recorded in a chicken coop apparently!) – just one question, I thought all these songs were on “Mule Variations”, not “Blue Valentine”?
You are absolutely correct!
I got my braincells crossed up between “Low Side of the Road” from Mule Variations with “Wrong Side of the Road” from Blue Valentine.
Thanks for the correction!
(Heck, as old as I am, I’m thankful I got the artist’s name correct!!)
