Really good job mate, enjoyed listening to this very much! When’s your album coming out?
heh – cheers mate 🙂
For those curious – this is a collection of tracks and remixes I’ve made from the last year or so. I was sick of listening to them so had to get them out there!
Wow – more of an album than a mix then?! I can’t imagine how many hours went into this but you should be rightfully pleased with the result – crisp and clean, and keeps moving, with “Pressure Cooker” and “New Day” the highlights for me. I won’t ask when the next volume is due! Respect.
Enter the night sounds like a Chris Brann/Wamdue production, very emotion based. All of the productions and remixes are soooo good. This s/b your demo for a label release. I love how you merge so many samples and synth work , with a vibe that feels like 94-97. Your Inner City remix is awesome, you aren’t afraid to take it to another level. I’d rather an instrumental of New Day, but it does work because MLK samples have been done to death , and BHO has a similar cadence. Rely enjoyed this mix, and was looking forward to it.
Cheers for the kind words and for listening. I chose the BHO speech just as a piece of powerful oratory. It’s not particularly politically aligned for me, just a message of hope. ive spent so long on these tunes at home I just had to get them out there. I will probably stick enter the night on bandcamp and see how it does – I’ve never released anything properly before!
Anyway, this has been quite cathartic and has enabled me to move on. Next batch will be more downbeat I think: a new project for the new year.
I kinda agree with everyone else that you should at least take the originals get a cover image and if not send them to labels at least have them up on bandcamp on ‘pay what you want’ – it’s a lot of work and a really good cohesive sound!
Really enjoyed this Len, great production.
Thanks ken, means a lot
Well, this beats many of the Albums of the Year from 2015 on the FACT Magazine, Pitchfork, Clash Music, etc lists. This will get many more spins. Many of the ones on the 2015 lists that I downloaded have been deleted after one listen. There really is a deep void for interesting and vibrant music right now. There of course are exceptions (Floating Points, Glenn Astro, etc), but I can’t stand how the majority output has been lo-fi boring crap. This brings what is missing: emotion and a continuingly evolving melodies. I’m not familiar w/Bandcamp and how to get notice over other releases, but you should definitely go for it.
That’s very kind Briscoe. This has been an inspiration to push on.
> Inner City – Good Life (Lenodd’s suburban remix)
Bloody hell. Shuffly stabby goodness there, mate.
One *tiny* constructive critique (and maybe my tone-deaf lugs): I’m not sure if the vocal on the drop sits in key for my ears… no idea how easy it is to “retune” without sounding forced, but it may just be the novel arrangement of a classic that’s tattooed deeply in my grey matter.
But the whole thing presses all the right buttons for me. Definitely get these out there somehow. Bandcamp sounds like a good move.
PS: was “Enter the Night” the one you played on PR the other night? Hearing it on my posh work monitor (with some bass) now, compared to through the iPad in the kitchen at the weekend…
Just downloaded and the first track already has me hooked!
Great mix Len – really enjoying your productions mate.
Jon
great stuff folks – thanks for all your comments – appreciated 🙂
Late to the party but love this mix a lot! If you haven’t considered releasing your tracks for purchase, I’d buy a few of them if I could get them lossless.
Thank you gen. It’s been my birthday so not got a lot sorted. will be cracking on with this over the next month.
Agree with all the comments before, very nice set of tracks. Nice work.
cheers Matrix 🙂
Ha! The longer I listened the more I turned up the volume. I agree with the bandcamp comment. It’d be good to get these out in a way that enables people to listen to individual tracks and, if they want, buy them.
I linked it up on my FB page but it hasn’t elicited many responses yet and I’m sure that this is because the number of people who will click on a mix and listen right through is considerably smaller than those who will check out a track due to the retarded attention spans of people who exist online 😉
Nice one Nellie – always a pleasure mate!
Loving it, thanks Len xx
Nice work Len, definite mid-90s vibe which I love, I think Gangly Voodoo and Void were my favourites but they’re all good – would have to agree with the comment above about the Inner City remix though, the vocal in the drop didn’t sound quite right to me.
Cheers Steve and popt_art – thanks your ears and the comments – I wont be revisiting it – I’ve moved on now, but I will definitely release a couple.
In case anyone is interested, I’ve put out the first tune on bandcamp with remixes. Cheers!
