People fluent with the mixtape culture understand the “back to mine” concept: the mixtape full of go-to records for the night’s end; for when the individual needs an evening to embellish in their deepest influences.
At one point, everyone, the LAZY//SEXY series ran monthly for two years; I had a lot of youthful free time. Now, I’m lucky if I can focus on a release four times a year. That being said, fifty nine releases deep, I’ve never released a deep introspective mix in terms of musical sweet spots regardless of genre. So… here we are. This is a compilation of records that I always turn to — individually or collectively — that have influenced and defined the sound of this series.
It’s a short set, because it really never carried much definition. Equal parts spacey, funky, deep, and chill, I hope you enjoy it. I really do.
Destroyer – Chinatown (0:00 mark)
Bent – Laughing Gear (03:59 mark)
Hybrid – Sinequanon (04:42 mark)
Onra – My Comet (10:41 mark)
Washed Out – Don’t Give Up (12:47 mark)
Millionyoung – Lovin (16:36 mark)
Work Drugs – Dog Daze (20:10 mark)
Aerosol – Psychedelic Coffee Buzz (23:39 mark)
Frou Frou – Let Go (26:51 mark)
Zero 7 – End Theme (30:55 mark)
Spacetime Continuum – Compound (32:55 mark)
Right on. The time factor is the same for a lot of us, so the ideas have to be refined (which actually makes for better mixes). I love the Back To Mine series and concept, those songs that roll around in your head when you wake up, and are triggered during the day by events. Looking forward to this, Bent, Zero 7, Spacetime C…
