The background to this project is that it began as a gift of 50 tracks for my fiftieth birthday (… yep I know!) DOM (the selector) had just moved back from living in NYC since the early 90s and had been digging up these gems during his time there.
So instead of consigning them all to my iTunes library to be mixed up and lost I decided to embark on putting them together as a whole. I wanted to keep true to the original creators and not muck about with the originals. Many are longer versions of tracks that I hadn’t come across before and so I wanted to keep that long player experience, so no edits, no added samples just low maintenance blends! The result is an epic just under five-O hours of listening pleasure!
The Brooklyn Bridge street photo used on the cover was taken back in the day by DOM and is where he lived. This scene was once used for Sergio Leone’s 1984 Once Upon a Time in America film poster… So I thought the mix title should use the same font and design. And oh yeah apologies for the title, one of the included tracks was the Hawaii Five-O theme tune (fiftieth etc) and that’s the closest I got to it!
…a HIGH FIVE-O thanks to b00mb0x for allowing the project to be uploaded onto the site…
…p.s. the next must have 50 will be a dub special…

I usually don’t care for unmixed mixes, they often play like a playlist on the ipod. This is different, it has a flow and connection, and plays like a radio station that doesn’t exist, because I didn’t feel like turning it off or fast fwd. Congrats on 50!
Thanks Briscoe, cheers for giving it listen and very pleased it kept playing for you – great summary, really like “plays like a radio station that doesn’t exist!” awesome!
Fantastic selections in the first two thirds of this (the slower tempo numbers at the end didn’t do it for me). Number 29 in particular made me stop what I was doing and pay 100% attention to it.
