About 3yrs ago I posted a short (15 minute) atomic-war-themed-sample-based-mix on bmbx and got a great response. I’d always wanted to make a video mix to accompany it, and finally found the time recently.
======
How much time do we have?
Minutes, days, months, years?
We don’t know.
Music and samples from the golden age of homeland security to meet the demands of the modern atomic age.
Take cover immediately.
Bernard Wright – Spinnin’
Ray Davies & His Funnky Trumpet
Lou Donaldson – One Cylinder
Mike & Bernie Winters – Fallout Shelter
War – City Country City
Coldcut – Atomic Moog 2000 (Live)
Goran Brecovic – War
John Lennon – Imagine (inst.)
This is BRILLIANT. It took me a moment to adjust my general mind frame to the presentational style, once done, however, it was shine-on from there on. I loved the “Dr. Strange Love” parts, the bombing sequences where right on Que, the dialogue was powerful n well placed, the JFK bit spoke loudly, and the ending just blew me away. Thank you for such a Great piece of art. Peace.
Totally excellent video! It is completely engrossing.
Watched it 3 times so far.
It plays great in VLC on both my mac & my pc.
Much praise to you & many thanks.
Thanks everyone – this project has been a labour of love for some time, so I’m pleased and relieved that you appreciated it.
It was weird retrofitting the video to a mix I did so long ago, and annoying in places as I wanted to change bits, but overall I’m pleased with how it turned out, and glad that it resonated with you all as well.
It’s my first proper video mix and has got me thinking about future projects, but it’s hard to think of any other subject whose imagery could have as powerful an impact as the insanity of atomic war.
I’d always envisaged the mix visually, and going through the old ‘public information’ films and newsreels gave me almost too much material to work with. Thank goodness our governments no longer need to trade in fear to get us to buy their lies 😉

Like the black and white, goes together seemlessly. Looks like a lot of work.

Beautifully crafted and themed mr l. I’d award a first in visual conception. Viva Greenham Common.
