i would like to thank everyone involved.
happy birthday bmbx, here’s to another decade
XX
thanks everyone for your contributions here and for the last decade
Its been a pleasure mixing with some of the best, downloading now and cant wait as it loooks incredibly tasty!!!!
Thank you Bong for using your bonding glue..
Thanks Naz for this site and all its contents!
AWESOME 🙂
Fan-bloody-tastic. I’ve been looking forward to this all week.
I love this place and it’s been an honour to be involved in this tribute.
Good work chaps!
Downloading now, but my rubbish broadband connection is telling me it’ll take 5 hours. boo!
Yay! Been looking forward to this, like opening a present. Thanks guys!
chuffin xcellente… so far. gonna take a whiles, hehe. seems wrong sumhow to pick out anyfins, but i luvved the zazoo bit especially laura palmers theme version. if i wait any longer theres gonna b toooo many bitz to mention in despatches 🙂
Listened to all 7 hours of it now. It’s a work of art I tells ya!
Here’s my thoughts:
00,00,00 – Bong
Excellent chilled opening by the master of the blu-tack. Loved every bit. Especially that Quantic track.
00,18,39 – Lenodd
Mixed perfectly into the next set is this by Lenodd that started my head bobbin immediately.
00,35,16 – S*A*T
Great inclusion of Sitargazer at the beginning of this set. Loved the dialogue to lead us in. Also lovin’ that Jettricks track.
00,54,29 – DJ Zazoo
As Swamp has already alluded to, Zazoo’s section is
wonderful. The Eno dialogue sets it up and by the time we got to Laura Palmer’s theme the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up. And it goes on to more beauty via some classic Randy Crawford.
01,11,55 – Jonny Trunk & Slide – Scooby Don’t
Cracked me up! 😉
01,13,10 – Naz
Atmospheric stuff from the main man.
01,33,47 – Blood Meridian.
Some sixties sounding pop here. Stuff I didn’t know. It’s cool stuff too.
02,01,15 – Warvadal
Top set by Warvadal – Right from the Burrough’s / Doors opening I loved every second.
02,18,45 – Edward
When perusing the tracklist for this giant mix, I was amazed that there didn’t seem to be any duplication between mixers. On listening to Edward’s set (Top stuff!) I see that some of the opening dialogue is that which is also used in my own set later in the mix. no wories though. It works brilliantly here and I’m sure it doesn’t matter that there’s a brief reprise later. Great minds think alike eh?
I really enjoyed Edward’s short set – brilliant track
choices. Good tribute to b00mb0x. (I very nearly used that Lonely Island song too)
02,23,33 – Briscoe
Nice change of pace (well sequenced bong!)
I loves me some cheese, so Andy Gibb was very welcome. I love Harry Thuman too.
02,42,18 – Swamp
P-Funk is a favourite of mine, so this went down a treat.
03,01,32 – Benchmark
I was giddy with excitement when Nelson Riddle popped up. I’m a sucker for the easy stuff. Jah Guide is a choon too!
03,18,33 – Lionel Mandrake
Talking Heads – Top, Gaye – Top. All of Lionel’s set had me movin and groovin, even at over 3 hours in. Loved the
Pioneers cover of Rollin’ Stone.
03,38,16 – Kosmen
The opening piano bars worked brilliantly after Lionel’s set ended. Some stirring stuff in this bit. Teardrop is always a highlight.
04,00,51 – Der DiskothekerTM – “Bed Springâ€
Diskotheker’s first contribution of 3 and it’s typically
genius. For reasons I won’t go into here, this short set
touched a raw emotional nerve in me and for the first time in memory a mix nearly had me in tears. Much humour in the set too though.
Excellent and inspiring.
04,05,00 – Boogie Magoo
Every moment of this made me grin massively. Love that
Charlie Brown opening and much Kudos for including Showaddywaddy.
04,17,50 – DJ Frankie Pigeon
And now my half arsed effort. I meant this as a tribute to this great site on the 10th birthday. I enjoyed making it and I am chuffed to hear it alongside such fantastic sets even though it’s like looking at the scribblings of a 2 yr old in a gallery of Monet’s and da Vinci’s. I wish I’d edited the Chorlton Rocks track down a bit.
04,37,43 – Whakamarumaru
Time to get this party started with this nice selction. Mas Que Nada is ALWAYS one to get me on my feet.
04,53,22 – DjRDGB
Confident selection of female vocalists – it worked well for me.
05,04,15 – Der DiskothekerTM
Every bit as inspiring as Diskotheker’s first section.
05,23,04 – Al The Kemist
Best Beat It cover ever! Lovin’ the Mungo’s Hifi track too. Great set.
05,42,32 – Mc Tulip
Just when I thought the quality couldn’t possibly last, here comes Syd dale with the Screen Test theme. A very high point in the whole shebang for me this. Top stuff!
05,45,13 – Shining Steve
From the ridiculous (in a good way) to the Sublime.
Lovely stuff.
06,05,13 – Timeloop
Extremely dance-a-rific stuff from Timeloop. Wow. Just brilliant!
Beeper = 😉
06,25,50 – Dj Useo
A great DJ with an amazing set here – The end is in sight at this point but there still huge delights here. Minimal my ass was top notch.
06,43,55 – Vepik
Loved the Jon Brion opening from Eternal Sunshine here. Bong has chosen which set sits where really well. You really get a sense duuring this mix that we are soon concluding.
Vepik, I love love loved your set. Swollen especially played well straight into…
07,01,35 – Der DiskothekerTM – “Let It Waltzâ€
Such an elegant way to end. I shed a tear.
Everyone involved with this mix deserves a huge pat on the back (oh go on then, even me). It is a brilliant collaboration which could’ve been a big mess but actually works as a listening experience and tribute to this great site. More of this sort of thing.
Just a shame that there weren’t even more of the mixers included (Riko especially was missed).
Good work Bong, Naz and co.
Sorry to have missed this…in the middle of a move to SA. Still haven’t got internet at home, and when I do get it, it will be capped at 3Gb a month. 🙁
ew thats chronic
well said frankie and i couldn’t really say it better meself.. everything was superb. such a pleasure to work on. you picked up on some good moments for me too .. screen test and scooby don’t .. 😈 der’s mini mini mixes were just superb.. as was yours..as was everyones really
the middle party section starting with briscoe and ending with boogie is just wonderful.. showaddywaddy was mega. your set kicks off the bootalicious section . boss dusbstep form the kemist and then the mix into screentest sets up the dancefloor for some serious shape action.. beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
and at the end of night there’s always time for one last waltz
my only disappointment is we dont own a mp3 player for the car.. i’m mildly jello of anyone with a 10 flight and time to kill. thanks again people, i love you all
Great review Frankie! Listened to the mix and everyone brought their A game. This is why even community radio is dead, you don’t need it. This mix puts any radio station to shame, and no commercials. I didn’t skip through, and it’s the longest mix I’ve listened to. Bong did a great job picking the order and setting the pace with killer melding. This soundtrack was with me on the way to work today, at work, and going through the grocery store. I dare say any other site would have a hard time coming up with a killer mix of 20 min segments (the main thing for me is always, “Is it interesting? Would I buy it?” Yes and Yes).
nice stuff blood 😈
thanx fer the timins frankie 🙂 found em very useful fer goin on from where i woz up to. iv whacked em into the original traxlist ^^^
made a cue file from yr timins info frankie. cheerz la. itz the 1st cue file iv made, so hopefully itz ok 😈
gotta say… MASSIVE PROPS to bong fer gluin all this togevver 🙂 it wud really hav dun me head in jugglin all them bitz
WOW! I never expected to see this so soon! I hope I can listen to it today! I don’t wan’na wait!
Big congratulations on 10 years!
I will def play this on the radio! Will let you know when.
Back with reaction after hearing.
One first greeting from my side. I couldn’t expect to be in it three times and I hope that this won’t bother anyone. As I am with friends in the mountains I had no possibility to listen to the mix yet and I’m waiting for the moment impatiently. Frankie’s words touched me – and to be true: they make me proud a bit. Thank you, Frankie. But the one who deserves a really big hand is good old Bong! And thanks as well to all the others who keep this site running. Best wishes for the next decade!
This is totally FANTASTIC! Bong, you throw a masterpiece of a party. So many brilliant DJs/mixers, I loved every moment.
Thank you, Naz for providing a place where we all can take unrestrained pleasure in each others journeys through Sound N Music. Thumbs up! to you, Frankie for such a wonderful review. And to all who took part, may blessings rain down upon you always. Lets all do it again sometime. Peace.
This looks awesome! Totally honoured to be a part of it 🙂
ok so now im only half way through this epic mix and it has made me lool and many other reactions
so far thank you for all who have contributed i’d mention names but im kinda drunk (new passtime)
next 3 hours i will comment on asap
Woah, 7 hours of listening. Thats my music sorted for work the next two weeks!
Will get back as soon I’ve gone through it. Can’t wait
Massive congrats to admins and artists for making it in style this far. 10 is a very long time on the internet.
And what a great anniversary edition! Loving it.
I’m almost halfway through listening to this epic piece. So glad I could be a part of it. It seems every genre of music and sound has been touched upon.
When compiling my piece I was so excited thinking about the segues before and after my contribution. I must congratulate you Bong for stringing together the “ambient” section known as Part 2. Naz, your atmospherics are very Eno-esque… Love it.
Congrats to my fellow DJ’s. You have all done yourselves proud.
your mix made sense of the ambience of naz’s and gave it a nice position in the mix.. in the sense of the party naz’s is the opening of the buffet section 😈
Well, now I’m completely through and I’m flabbergasted. Incredible, Bong, how you made all this fit together. You built perfect bridges and made exact cuts. Nevertheless the serving in seven parts is easier to consume. And these pieces are as elaborated as the whole thing. Thank you for both sides of this big work, Bong!
anytimes fella..
labour of love
The love shows & actually I prefer the long version despite the time investment required.
Wonderful work,monsewer.
