As you can probably tell this is ‘all over the place’ but hopefully has some coherence to it… bit of everything thrown into the mix e.g. D&B, reggae, indie, hiphop, funk soul and beats starting at 75bpm and building up to 105bpm at the end. Generally went alright (I think) and I used the loop function a few times to draw out some of the mixes, especially on the Skeewiff / Violent Femmes mix. I know that the mix between Kid Who & Leisure Allstars got a bit ‘too busy’ for a little bit, but I wasn’t gonna start over just because of that…
Done live in one take on my DNS-5000’s, and yes the Kid Who tune is by the Kid Who from the ‘box… Cheers Louis, it’s a great tune.
Tom, I hope that you’ll see what I mean about the Marilyn Monroe remix…
Headsup its Scouse Woot
downloading now
I’ve just realised that the mix is just a bit too short… thought that it had uploaded the whole mix but it’s cut off the last track. Will upload again now.
yeah i got 38mb and it stopped mate lol.
cool i will wait
…won’t be long now!
anyone else getting what sounds like interference all through the first tune and a bit after?
or is it meant to be like that? I know you’re after quality Stu… check it out and see if you see what I mean
definitely still fluttering a bit even in the Skeewiff tune
F**K It!! I’ll have to have a check what’s gone wrong, cheers for the heads up though Ed.
The only thing that i can think of is that the CD-RW that I used now needs to be changed… the original mix sounds fine it’s just the CD copy of it that is fluttering.
I’ll upload AGAIN… btw this isn’t a cunning plan to increase my downloads π
it seems fine for me? anyhoo, back to the mix – more eclectic than other offerings with a bit of indie chucked into the mix – i enjoyed it (even though shy fx is on me new mix you bugger! π )
as i’ve said hundreds of times before – you’d be a great party dj in a bar – a wide enough spread of stuff to keep everyone happy π
Cheers Len, that was quick! and sorry to beat ya to the punch, this becoming a regular thing now with Readybreak using two accapellas and the Lord of the Underground track that I’ve got on upcoming mixes. Gonna have to check what tunes everyone’s using before I do a mix soon π
The eclecticness is going to be something that will be more common, I’m trying more and more styles and genres rather than sticking to one or two.
…if you could arrange for a weekly gig in Brum I’d be more than happy to attend π Having issues gettin anything, unless I used vinyl in which case I could be playing fairly regularly.
I uploaded it again so the sound is fine now. I’m pretty sure it’s the CR-RW’s reaching the end of the life (I record on a laptop that hasn’t got internet connection so then I tranfer it to the desktop that has via CD-RW’s)
get yerself down to london – cdj’s in every bar and gigs going all the time if you can be arsed to do a bit of schlepping round the bars. serato seems to be the way forward though!
I look after my son on mondays and tuesdays, so lots of time to listen to mixes π
mmm, a tasty slice!
love the variation of this one. even though some of the more indie stuff isn’t really my cuppa I’m dead impressed with how you’ve mixed it in and out, works really well! Always so much harder to mix up non quantised stuff n that.
Big Up!
Another great mix, impressive mixing as well as it was all done live!
Always good to various styles in mixes and have’nt heard 90% of the tracks which is always a plus point.
Cheers fellas!
That Rakes track did my head in, it didn’t hold it’s bpm properly and I was strugglin for a bit…
In an ideal world Len I’d come to London, but it ain’t gonna happen on a regular basis. Shame though as it would be nice.
prince fatty is a tune of tunes
yeh-yehh
another good mix for a paaarty… all over the dancefloor like ya aunt on the sherry
Hahaha, lovin the image that’s conjuring up in my mind Bong….
I knew you’d like that Prince Fatty tune, i’m a bit partial to that Marcia Griffith tune as well…
On the D/L now Stu, looking forward to this a lot! π
Fookin love the Rakes, great live band if you ever get the chance to see em.
Their lead singer reminds me a lot of Ian Curtis, kinda dances like him too :s
“iΓ’β¬β’m a bit partial to that Marcia Griffith tune as wellΓ’β¬Β¦”
totally! goes without saying π
Ah, enjoyed this one a lot! π
That ODB reworking was especially cool! Might have to have a browse for that!
A very strong track listing and despite the tracks which lack the quantizing, all are mixed like a treat!
As Len quite rightly says, the stuff you play would be wicked out on the bar and club circuit! You still gigging every now and again up in B’ham?
Nah, the gig fell through as I don’t play vinyl… as it was sponsored by a record store I couldn’t really complain too much π
Anyway, cheers for the comments Tom, I seem to fall lucky with the non-electronic tracks… I’ll send ya the ODB re-work track
Bong, fair point!!!
Cheers. That’d be grand! π
Have you got Orgone’s album ‘The Killing Floor’ yet? I’m probably way behind but if you haven’t I’m fairly certain you’ll like it. Its on eMusic π
…I’ll zip it up and send it your way if you don’t have it – obviously for you to borrow… *(wink wink)*
Got it a while ago ta mate… and you’re right I do like it π
Right up to the ususal standard and SO eclectic.
I like “all over the place”.
π
well done again stu.
I liked a lot of stuff in this mix — especially since you hit two of my all-time top 20 favorite tunes (“I Want You Back” and “Express Yourself” <– one of the best ever!)
glad to hear someone using Stet (even though it’s not one of my favorite tracks from them – it still conjured some 20 year old memories when I heard them)
lots of other good stuff in here and you even managed to get the Violent Femmes track that I had earmarked for the next “for the kids at work” mix)…
nice job.
Cheers Matt… I kinda of knew/hoped you’d enjoy it. Agree about the Stet song not being their best, but it worked well with Abiodun Oyenwole, so I worked it backwards in this case.
I’ve got a few more Express Yourself’s to come so watch this space…
As always, a big thanks to you FS!!
hey stu
sick mix man! thanks for dropping my mash in there too. some really dope tunes in there, as always, some to track down!!
nice work bro
Cheers Louis, always good to know that you liked it mate…..my pleasureΓΒ re: the mash it’s a boss tune.
Hey Stu again fantastic tune selection – you can half find those diamond sounds! As always your mixes always force me to keep playing them.- You should put on your own night – find a venue etc……ΓΒ
Mmmmmm that Marcia Griffiths opener is warm to the touch, mmmmmmm !
Nice eclectic touch and great feeling for this one… and yes the opener is a jewel…
Cheers fellas…..Marcia Griffith is boss, some great tracks over the years.
Great stuff Stu. The first half hour in particular is superb.
all over the place you say? im on it!
half way through and its been a splendid ride so far!
grandiose track selection + superb mixing!
thanks a lot
the honey boy jackson thing is awesome! hope to find that somewhere…
Cheers Rollin, that means a lot coming from you….
give us your email address and I’ll send it on….it’s a bootleg from Magic Fly that’s never been released.
