Back to the style of my Nostalgia and Deja Vu mixes for this one. This is version 8 which I am now finally happy with. Hope you all enjoy.
a supreme Journey HP – judicious use of samples, excellent tunes, lovely fades; really enjoyed this – reminds me of some old skool ambient mixes I have where anything goes but it all sounds coherent. Paticulalry liked the intro track and as we discussed earlier, last lighthouse keeper is a hidden classic
In a word, Magical. A wonderful connective vibe throughout. Filled with tears, joy, and smiles. When Dolly Parton sings it flows right through me. The Last Lighthouse Keeper is awesome. And the Johann Johannson piece is beyond cool.
Great work. Thanks.
This is so up-my-street I tripped over it on the way to the shops.
“Back to the style of my Nostalgia and Deja Vu mixes for this one.”
I knew I’d be in for a treat when I read this… I’ve liked all your other mixes (and even some of your collaborations 🙂 but those two are my absolute favourites. You’ve got a real ear for atmosphere and feeling and it comes through again on this one. A really evocative mix – perfect for headphone listening.
As we discussed a while ago the FSOL mixes are a huge influence on me and I’m constantly on the lookout for anything that evokes that spirit – throwing lots of different types of music into the mix yet retaining a sense of whole. You’ve done a really good job here of capturing that while still being original and with a sense of humour. (I certainly don’t mind hearing the lighthouse keeper again here!).
Once I’ve had a few more listens, I might return and pick out a few favourite bits. For now though, top work!
matrix, bong, nlm, Warvadal, zoll, Briscoe, Megatrip and especially my dear, dear collab pal Ed many thanks for the comments. btw if you don’t get round to more than one listen I urge you all to at least check out again the sublime Radiohead cover by the Easy Star All Stars. It’s the dog’s… many thanx again 🙂
Amazing mix! Makes me wish clubs still had ambient rooms… the “Last Lighthouse Keeper” is incredible… and “Subterranean Homesick Alien”, I was lucky enough to see Easy Star All-Stars live this summer and they were awesome…
Hi HP – finally got myself some relax time.
Really enjoying this – Excellent mate!
I love that Roger Eno/Transparencies album – great to see a trk on a b0x mix.
I don’t think I’ve heard an ambient mix as good this for bloody ages – top gear maestro!
Thanks S.A.T mate, glad u enjoyed, I was chuffed to bits with how it came out too. Still can’t believe I managed to get an Elton John tune in a b00mb0x mix… cheers hp
Not my usual cup of tea, but this is very impressive. Makes for a great listen at night…….not too good for my usual ‘box listening time, whilst walking my dog, it’s all a bit too quiet and you don’t get chance to listen to it properly.
Wow, what a tremendous mix. Hats off to you guts, this was sublime throughout.
Especially enjoyed the first section, and by then you’d got me hooked enough not to mind the Sound of Music and Elton John. And that Glen Campbell track – what a tearjerker. Beautiful.
Hello HP – Just checking in to say this one is still doing it for me.
Definitely one of my favourite pieces of music ever, loads better than so much of the stuff I’ve bought over the years.
I was wondering what radio or tv show the phone call at the start was from. Looking at the tracklist though, it looks like it might be the scanner track? Which probably makes it a real overheard conversation right? Anyway, it sounds incredible still.
Ed, thanks for the additional big up matey, the bit you refer to is the Scanner track. It’s a whole Jean Cocteau play that Scanner set to music. I’m not up on me plays but it seems very Pinter-ish to me cheers hp 🙂

Really loving this! Thanks to Lenodd for pointing this out to me. Reminds of Xela – Listen With Xela with the commentary over the top.
