Had a real struggle in deciding what mix to post…finally decided that it should be this one. I did this mix about 8 weeks ago with no planning whatsoever; I only knew the first tune that I was going to play, the rest just were picked slightly at random with some of them needing to be in a mix.
Some old, some new, some classics. The three tunes (Donald Glaude, Dino Lenny & Sub Bug), give my goosebumps goosebumps!! I’ll probably play them in my set at the end of the month.
Starts off electro-y house, then changes into banging house and then just erm…nice house!! You might need to be ‘in the mood’ for the first 30 mins or so, personally I love it all, and I’ve got a feeling that Solcofn & Mitzura might be in the mood.. 😉
Dangerscouse- Dangerhouse
1. FC Kahuna- Nothing Is Wrong
2. Basement Jaxx- Take Me Back To Your House (Speaker Junk Remix)
3. Simian Mobile Disco- It’s The Beat (Riton Re-Rub)
4. Bassnectar- Yo (Speaker Junk Jackin’ Remix)
5. Larry Tee- Licky (Herve Goes Low Remix)
6. Yo Majesty- Club Action (Tetsuo’s Remix)
7. Benny Bennasi- Who’s Your Daddy?
8. Donald Glaude- Get Up (Main Mix)
9. Dino Lenny- I Feel Stereo
10. Sub Bug- Keep Rockin’
11. Who Da Funk- Shiny Disco Balls (Instrumental)
12. MAW- Work (Accapella)
13. The Beginerz- Reckless Girl
14. One Foot In The Groove- Feel The Groove
15. Puddu Varrano- Back To You
16. Evolution- Metropolis (Can’t Stop The Feeling Mix) (Sasha Remix)
17. Screen II- Hey Mr DJ (MacReady/ Da Silva Remix)
Crackin mix, thoroughly enjoyed the filthy beats at the start and the change to the more friendly ones towards the end. The MAW acapella is wicked. Been looking to get hold of that for a while.
Keep up the good work 😉
Well impressed with how smoothly this has been put together considering you were plucking records from the bag as you went along. I’m always in awe of people who can beat-mix so well.
Stu – its a strong mix – perfectly beatmatched of the bits i listened to, just the start is a not for me in terms of the music. This kind of dirty house isn’t my thing really, I’ve tried a few times to listen, like solcofn’s ghetto blasted, but I don’t get on with it (unless its 3am in a club and i’m spannered); maybe I’m getting too old eh? sorry mate! 🙁
Edward, thanks mate. It’s not that hard once you get used to it; after a while you can ‘usually’ hear which one needs to be speeded up or slowed down. It’s harder to pick tunes that ‘fit’ well together i.e. it’s beat matched and the style/feel of the tunes compliments each other…still getting my head around mixing with musical chords in mind. I’ve got a feeling that I’ll never totally understand it.
Len, that was exactly what I expected you to say re: not getting on with dirty house. It is something that quite a few people have to be in the mood for, personally I can listen to techno at 9am……and I have been to bed too 😉
Only really got going for me with “Who’s Your Daddy” which is a killer tune, after that it just gets better, I think tracks 11-17 are my favourites, the “Work” acapella erm, works brilliantly, “Reckless Girl” is one of my fave tunes anyway and “Hey Mr DJ” is a classic – wicked 😈 . Only trouble with this mix, it makes me wish I was in a club/party, on the dancefloor, RIGHT NOW! DS, when are you playing in London? I just might come to that if I’m not otherwise engaged…
28th July, Cosmobar, 50-54 Clerkenwell Road. Be great to meet ya if you can make it. It is open from 8pm-5am and we haven’t got much of a running order so I expct to be playing early (probably 9-10) and then later on (probably 3-4) as I’m only a guest of the organisers. Be great to finally play in a club, can’t wait.
Gonna be playing classics to start with some straight up house, and then banging stuff near the end of the night.
finally had a chance to check out the mix. some nice transitions on there. especially the way you brought in reckless girl, liked that. also, good use of the work accapella. and liked that benny benassi track as well, going to have to go out and get it myself, i think…good stuff.
it almost feels like it’s a set built backwards a bit though, with the heavy stuff first and ending with the funkier stuff.
Ha ha ha, erm……I suppose it is “built backwards” 😆
As it was totally unplanned, apart from a few tunes that I wanted to play somewhere, I didn’t stop to think about structure too much. With hindsight I would have done it the other way round though.
Thanks for the comments though mate, they mean a lot coming from you……
Damn, I don’t think I’ll be able to make it on Saturday, I’m playing myself at Stumbleworthy (http://stumbleworthy.net/), in theory I could come down afterwards but whether, come 1 a.m., I’ll feel like it is another matter – good luck anyway!
I can’t quite believe that these mixes I’m listening to are the work of the same clumsy, uncoordinated tone deaf clown that less the 18 months ago handed me a CD to listen to with a big grin on his face telling me that he had just invested in some CD decks…how I laughed. Now here we are some 13,104 hours of practice later and I hate to admit it but clearly the lads got talent…Stu your eclectic music taste never ceases to amaze me, you’ve got Dj written all over you, I’m still not sure that’s the way to convince the record label bosses but you have to make your own mistakes lest we forget the purchase of Popcorn Bubble Fish by one Malcolm Catto. Let’s see you shoehorn one of his offerings into your next mix, now there’s a challenge. Good work fella enjoyed this one more than elektro-pump.
Just when I thought I was getting off page three… 😕
Really enjoyed this Stu. Some barnstorming stuff throughout and if you’re in the mood it rocks.
THe FC Kahuna track fits in well here. I bought the album after hearing Hayling Island in the States and was disappointed by the whole experimental feel of the album.
Take a track out in isolation though and it works pretty good.

that screen 2 tune is one of my favourites – looking forward to it! and evolution – metropolis, well, lets have it!
🙂
evolution 😀
Yeah, two of my favourites from when I first started clubbing, ‘Metropolis’ was Sasha’s first ever remix…made a great job of it imo.
You got me at nothing is wrong 8)
A lot I didn’t know (almost all …) but you were right, I digged every last one

Cheers fellas.
I’ll forward it on the MAW accapella if you want it..got it on mp3.

Cheers Steve 😆 There’s always room for classics.

No worries mate, by 1am I doubt that you’ll be wanting to fuck around with getting to wherever it is I’m playing 😉 Not even too sure myself!!!

Ha ha ha Eddiebizzle, what a great name! As for Malcolm Catto that was totally your fault nothing to do with me 😉
Cheers mate, had a feeling that you might like this one…….

Cheers mate. Got to admit that I’ve only heard that one track, never got round to buying the album….think I’ll avoid it now 😉
