This is a 90-minute mix of music that inspired the making of the Beatphreak the Art of Soul Album in 2006.
It may have been a snare drum or a rhythm that triggered a thought, but these were the tracks that I was listening to and used for DJ’ing at the time.
I also had a terabyte of samples for the album so I threw some into the pot on top of a funk/hop hop disco musical bed.
Some of the tracks on here are tracks I started, but never finished so I used them for this mix. There are also some nice bootleg elements that never got finished that were thrown in.
There are to many tracks, loops and sample to list but I will do my best to answer any questions if you don’t know a tune or two.
Cheers
Beatphreak
A massive welcome to Beatphreak!!
This is fuckin amazing that we have got one of my heroes in musical terms contributing to the ‘box! His album is well worth checking, if you liked the two tracks that I’ve got on my latest mix, and he’s got a new album out soon as well……
thanks..really enjoying…every mix with sly and the family stone is a good mix !
Is this beatphreak as in Jason Holmes?
Is there any chance of an attempt at a tracklist without having to mention all the samples & loops. Maybe just the “funk/hop hop disco musical bed”.
can’t wait to hear this one!
HDD, it’s Jason Turton, and it’s the REAL beatphreak i.e. ‘Art of Soul’ album, Jack to Phono Records artist.

This was very very good – tight as a nun’s youknowwhat and twice as funky. The best funk mix I think I’ve heard on here yet – he’s raised tha bar fellas!
Most impressive in execution & conception. It kept a smile on my face & a beat in my feet throughout.
I got very curious about the foundation pieces as so many eluded me,but captivated me nonetheless.
