This is the content of a cd I made for a friend of mine.
He wanted some “rock” songs to listen to in his cd player while going to work.
I tried to mix several styles of rock music.
Note however how Taurus is similar to the begining of Stairway to Heaven, but was recorded before
…(the fact Led Zeppelin were touring with spirit at that time is maybe no hazard).
Note also how The great Flaming Lips were inspired by the Pink Floyd instrumental.
This is more a collection of songs than a mix, I hope the transitions and the track
positions don’t hurt you too much, I really like it that way.
Hope you enjoy and maybe discover one or two songs you like.
Certainly enjoyed and did discover one or two songs I liked. Sheme about the Floyd track, seems everyone uses it. Anyone ever tried Several Species Of Small Furry Animals in a mix. Though Alans Psychedelic Breakfast would be a real challenge. 😀 😛 🙄
them strings in the opening track are gorgeous..
so ye.. back to the mix. i’m burning this for pa bong-in-law he loves his blues rock bizznizz
Yep goes well over a Psychick TV song called Acidosis from the 50 years of Sunshine CD
It becomes very noisy & using the Several species on echo & rewinding it gives a nice “freakout” feel.
Oh I have not listened to this mix yet – will download & comment later.
Cheers for the link djhdd I’ll be checking that out cos i do like a “freakout” feel.
By the way Dez it’s good to see the Kinks in a mix, keep up the good work
Really enjoying this mix. The choice of tunes is well thought out and some crakcers in there that I didn’t know who sang them (The Hombres)
The transitions all sound good to me. 😀
Ha! Those rocks on the cover are revealed as seals upon closer inspection.Nice one.
So many great tracks.Enjoyed every one.The jjcale is right up there in my all-time top ten! Thanks big time for a splendid experience.
skeki-I used that floyd’ sev species track in a mix with some george carlin singing about raisins.Didn’t go over as well with fans of post-dark side floyd. They overwhelmingly prefer this track. 8) 8) 8) 8) 😀 😀 😀 😀
The tracklist held no special promise for me (though not particularly turned off either), yet it proved a very good selection. You have shown a fine ear for sequence in your mixes.
useo8….can you name your top 10? I’d be interested. I have temporarily skipped mix number 40 in my own creations – I plan to do a double CD mix (“20/20”) of my 40 favourite tracks interspersed with snippets from my 40 favourite films. This is such a difficult choice to make though…. 😕
Hmmm…
01-William Orbit-adagio for strings
02-Beatles-money
03-Devo-jocko homo
04-Soft Boys-I wanna destroy you
05-Shoes-three times
06-National Whippeter-a’whippeting we will go
07-Beck-where it’s at
08-Fatboy Slim-oughtta my head
09-JJ Cale-After Midnight
10-Basement Jaxx-where’s your head at
That was tough. It would surely change if I was asked again in a week.
😉
Nice to see such an eclectic top ten.
I’m gonna try listen to some of the songs you mention, I never heard several of them.
Question : the Orbit track is the ambient version or the techno one ?
The ambient.Play it on at least 600 watts for maximum effect.I like the dance version, but the album one is as close to heaven as I’ve ever been.
Thx for the information…
As a matter of fact, I like the songs you have put in your top ten…thx for sharing…
Challege accepted – look out for The Perils OF Cheese Before Bedtime coming soon.
Great mix and a keeper BTW

Strings remiscent of The Moody Blues stir our senses alongside a guitar stairway… but it’s not to heaven. It only makes sense to follow up with Pink Floyd’s throbbing bassline and ambient production into The Flaming Lips. The clashing cymbals, rhythmic guitars, and oftenb spacey moods all take turns at being the forefreont of this mix.
The mix takes a garage twist afterwards, with smashing hits such as “Helter Skelter”, which then flows into jam / blues instrumentals by the likes of Phish and Stevie Ray Vaugn. Before you were sitting at the bar talking philosophy; now you’re riding the mechanical bull.
The rock continues in peak form until we’re left with the harmonic, banjoey guitar rock tune of “Ashes In The Wind”, and then Howie Gelb calms us right back down. Look, riding the bull is fun, but we don’t wanna get arrested tonight, right? The mix winds down with playful, country/rock inspired dance hits such as “What I Got” and “Mountain Music”.
The mix plays out like a soundtrack to a good, southern night out. Ease-in strings, rock-the-fuck-out electric guitars, followed by acoustic guitars, rich vocalists, and throbbing pianos of the country sun at rest. Y’all give it a listen, y’hear?
Wow . . .
I am amazed by the responses I got from this one.
Special thx to vepik for his review, you wrote exactly what I was trying to make one’s feel when he listen to the mix.
And . . . last but not least . . . b00mb0x is the best . . . thx to you guys for letting us share our musics by hosting the mixes for free . . .
