I’m going to try my hand at writing decent reviews for mixes on here, so here goes.
Bass Is the Place mixed by Bong.
What does that mean? What you’ve come to expect from a Bong mix: trippy introduction, followed by (a) rich, deep, dubby regea sounds and/or (b) hip, obscure funk.
The Silver Apples kick off the mix with a light, trippy ambience tailed with a house beat. After “Live In the Mix” kicks in, you know you’re headed towards funk county. “Hippy Skippy, Moon Street” carries a sample a certain female singer recently used, leading into “Because Of Money” with its driving, hypnotic drums. The rare, obscure funk gets a few spacey detours, such as “Secret Selector Dub”, which only serve to reinforce the mix.
The mix finishes with the horns ending along a shimmering, twinkling sound. While these cuts may be unheard to most, they are at the top of their funky game. Bass is the place, and it has a home in this mix.
I’m beginning to think that Bong is a divine musical channel. that is here on this planet in order to mix, tweak and filter music into a new manner of listening.
Some fav tunes in there Treva Whateva, Funky 16 corners, Alice Russell, Ch3vy and Moon People (this is going on one my up and coming mixes), and some that made me want to check out the bands that I haven’t heard before!
A ripping set! Didn’t know any track going in & still loved it throughout.Big praise to you for a wonderful listen! The immaculate production shines especially after I add sufficient volume.Quite like the cover as well. With this playing the mountain of speakers seems to pulse! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) π π π π
I can’t fucking believe that Flow Dynamics know about b00mb0x!!!! π―
If I could get more of Dave’s tunes I would have them all over my mixes; so far only managed to get Rhibosome “Walkin”, and the Flow Dynamics remix of “Impulse” in a mix, everything else is on vinyl.
