    Matrix Mix 20 – Fear 3 (59:08, 83Mb)

This one is not my usual style (apart from not trying to seamlessly beat match, which I can’t yet). It is made up of various moody tracks, mainly techno/house, with samples/storyline from John Carpenter’s The Thing running through it. Only 8 tracks in an hour, so if you don’t think these tracks are great like I do then the mix will probably be far too much like hard work to listen to.

    Tracklist:

    01. Lucky People Center – Sundance
    02. Two Lone Swordsmen – Glide By Shooting
    03. Stockwell Steppas – Spin Desire
    04. Marcello Castelli – Better Days
    05. Rock Hopper – Rock Hopper ’94
    06. Hallucinogen – LSD
    07. Dot Allison – Substance (Felix Da Housecat Mix)
    08. Pink Floyd – Shine On You Crazy Diamond

I listened with much interest as I an working on a similar theme at the moment which is proving difficult to put together. I am finding that I enjoy mixes such as these that have a theme rather than a collection of tunes. They are a bit like a book where you will read it once but not repeatedly. However, it can be very satisfying and we have so much choice on here that it’s a nice diversion.

On the minus side I found a few of the tunes went on a bit and were not to my personal liking.

However, I do like the sonic feel to the mix and a landscape that leaves you to imagine your own screenplay. Not one of your best in my opinion but enough to keep us Matrix groupies ticking over 🙂

Fair enough, I did think twice before submitting this one as it is very personal in taste (the main reason I decided to is that it is a complete tangent from the other music that I have submitted so far). It was made purely for personal consumption in the days before I had discovered b00mb0x and the fellow addicts on here; if I started making this mix now and with a wider audience in mind I suspect that it would turn out very differently. It might still be crap though ;).

I often find it difficult to pick stuff for inclusion. Ideally you hope that your personal tastes will be right for other listeners but it’s very tempting to slip in some more commercial stuff. The trouble is that if you do this it can detract you from your original plan.

Having said that, it’s better to try and push the barriers and “The Rites Of Matrix” was a brave and very successful attempt that set the bar a bit higher. Just keep ’em coming buddy!

I’d stick to your personal taste, don’t get lured into the (predictable) commercial stuff.

taking chances and stepping out of your safety net is well worth it, even if you fall flat on your face. This mix wasn’t that bad, some of the tracks are good techno (esp the Dot Allison track). This is how you expand and grow .
