First time posting a mix on BoomBox but it’s not a new mix, working on that at the moment, this is one I did a couple of years ago to capture the sort of tunes I’d been playing at outdoor parties, house with plenty of Latin and afro flavours, hopefully it’ll be a reminder of summer as winter draws on.

2 inland knights – both ends
3 dj terry – ribambel
4 martin solveig vs salif keita – madan

it’s a good un’ .. welcome to b00mb0x
Yeah welcome to the mixing bowl!! Bit confusing that you are Gridban on your profile and Steve Townsend in the DJ section….
Won’t get chance to listen to this for a few days, but I’ll give you comments ASAP.
Nice mix, liked it a lot. It skips a lot during the Can’t Be Funky Tune, starts at around 53.07….had you noticed this?
Oh dear, I didn’t know that – it was recorded direct to CD and the CD’s fine, maybe something went wrong in the ripping – I’ll have to check. As for the name confusion, Steve Townsend is my real name and the name I DJ under, but whenever I register on any website I always use Gridban ‘cos I know nobody else will have used it before me!
Skipping is very noticeable & impairs the flow.Much enjoyed the selection & mixing. The cover is appealing with the retro look of the lettering & the futuristic appearance of the sun.
Looking forward to a new one soon! You assemble well! 😀 😀 😀 😀 8) 8) 8)
Apologies for the skipping – just had a listen and it’s awful. Have to try and figure out why that happened, but it’s definitely somewhere in the process of conversion to mp3.
I can see this going down very well at an outdoor party. Barbee music for the masses 🙂
Sorry it took so long to listen to it. I really enjoyed this mix, some crakcing tunes on there especially the afro influenced ones. Mixing was spot on, was it done on decks?
I thought the skipping was my mp3 player, as its nothing spectacular. It’s annoying but it doesnt go on for that long.
Cheers DS, glad you liked it. Yes, it was all done on decks, I’m a bit of a luddite when it comes to DJing, can’t get with CDs/mp3s, too much button pushing. The afro style tunes are very much my thing, I always try and get a few of them into a mix.
CD decks are the way forward!! But then again I’ve never got my head around vinyl mixing, not least because I’ve got over 1500 CD’s that need putting to good use….
I know what you mean about button pushing, I’ve missed the button a few times halfway through a mix…..d’oh!!!
A mix of afro-house would be good if possible….
Might do a whole mix of afro-house sometime, next one’s gonna be a pure deep house mix though, hopefully will be done soon. As for CDs vs. vinyl, I could possibly handle using CD decks which have the pads that make it *like* using vinyl, but even then, I like to be able to look at the vinyl and *see* where the breaks are, so I dunno – my big wish would be for a pair of those Numark (I think) turntables with CD decks built in but I don’t think I’m likely to have a spare 2 grand anytime soon 🙁
Really nice mix that mate.
Happy, smiling, summery,& uplifting are words that spring to mind.
Nice one Steve, lookin forward to the “new” mix now !!! 😀
Cheers Firestopper, glad you liked it, wouldn’t hold your breath for the new one though, it takes me ages to get one of these together… gonna *try* and do it this weekend, we’ll see…
“See where the breaks are”, how do you mean? You can actually see the breakdown on the vinyl? I just play around with the tunes for a bit and write down timings and speeds etc. Problem with that is, if I miss the right moment my plans go to shit!!
I know what you mean about expensive decks….I’ve got my eyes on the next CD decks up from mine, the Denon DNS3500, problem is that they are £550 each.
Yes, that’s exactly what I mean – the vinyl appears lighter when the drums drop out, so you can see where the changes in the tune are. I like mixing with vinyl ‘cos it’s hands-on, you can sort of feel what you’re doing rather than having to calculate too much.
New mix is still not ready, found another tune that should be in there so have to revise the tracklisting slightly, hope to have it done by new year 😀
