This mix is a result of some really good finds at Goodwill in the last year, the rest from funk blogs and the missed lovefingers. Most of the records at Goodwill are garbage, but every once in a while you find some gems. You can tell when the same person donated different records, as was the case for the Cameo/La Flavour/Eruption/Karen Silver/Ian Dury/Chic day. I don’t mind spending a dollar a pop on records, cheap fun. Hope you enjoy.
I like the look of this Briscoe……Cameo are always a winner in my book
Hi Briscoe, Lovely mix bud. Really enjoyed that soul/philly/disco vibe throughout. That Demis Roussos track seems like a lost gem. As per usual I have a similar mix in the pipleine, problem is it’s a freakin long pipline with plenty of blockages.
cheers hp 🙂
Thanks guys! Hidden, I know what you mean about the long pipeline. I usually have to wait till vacation and then late at night to do a mix, plus finding tracks that mesh, cleaning them up, etc. I just really wanted to do a disco funk mix and I also got ION Discover DJ for a gift, so the mix this time had a lot of momentum. I have about 6 mixes I’m thinking about, but the one that gets done first will be the one with the most momentum (inspiration or flood of tracks that fit).
Dangerscouse, yeah that Cameo was new to me recently, and they have so much more than what most people know of killer funk.
great stuff – I’ve got a disco mix on the back burner – this will fill the gap for me for now though! china burton is a classic and the opening is just great – where did you get it from?
Thanks! The intro is from another Goodwill find, Night Moves :Professional Approach To Disco Dance Instruction, album set with book by Deney Terrio on K-tel.
love it fella
This really did hit the spot………..this is a pure 10 out of 10 winner in my book. You’ve done some classic mixes, but to my mind this is probably your best to date
Thanks man! I played it for a fellow employee who’s black and my age, and even though he’s been immersed in funk, soul, etc, his whole life, he was surprised there is so much music out there he’d never heard and likes. I told him there is more funk, disco, etc out there than we could ever hear, and that there are crate diggers the world over that are re-dicovering gems every day, esp in the UK.
Too true Briscoe…it’s a shame when you see people blinkered to other types of music than they usually listen to.
For me, music is good or bad, genres are never a boundary for me and i’ll always give something a listen before deciding if I like it
very nice briscoe! enjoyed the mix quite a bit… gave it a bump at my place —

Thanks Megatrip, btw you have a killer blog, great mix of random shots with comic book and music, going in my bookmarks.
