Right then, this is a collab between Benchmark and myself as we seem to have a very similar musical style. There will hopefully be more to come from Magnet & Steel in the future…
Worked out well in the end, starts off hiphop and quickly picks up the pace into breakbeat and then moves into D&B at the end.
Class mix lads, fairly bounces along.
Not a great fan of the turbo speed choonz at the end, but havin said that, I really like the version of In A Gadda Da Vida !
Cheers FS… I didn’t like it either to start with but it’s a grower
TBH mate, from my part anyway I’ve really lost interest in mixing over the past few weeks, and I’m not gonna have much time after the end of the month with starting a new job.
All in all I’m seriously considering selling my decks, we’re skint at the moment as well so the money would come in handy. I’ve got my mates 1210’s so I can practice on them (only got his old house tunes on vinyl though) and maybe get Serato Scratch in the future… so in answer to your question, maybe, maybe not.
Cheers buddy….. I’ve just fallen out of love with mixin, it might change and I do have the opportunity to get back into it but at the moment I’m just not feelin it anywhere near as much as I used to.
The money scenario will be sound in a month or so, just had loads of notable birthdays and meals out etc.
I have got two more mixes ready to post so don’t worry too much… there might be no break in productivity for the ‘b0x posts 😉
Cheers for the comments.
Hey, I know how you feeling with money. I’m so skint I’ve had to start cycling into work so have’nt had time to listen to all the new mixes. Also I’ve made a promise to myself to get my head down and try and learn some new software for work so I won’t be able to do much in the way of mixing for awhile (although I’ve one in the pipleine)
alright chaps – a hit or miss affair for me – some of the tunes were ace – killer scam for instance, but i can’t be doing with the axwell high contrast thing – really annoying i’m afraid! preferred the early sections which seemed to work really well!
Cheers Len, thought that might be a bit annoying for some people…..I thought the same to start with, then it grew on me on the second listen.
My potential decision to hang up my ‘phones, isn’t financially driven. I’ve just lost interest in mixing, for example I’ve got a mix ready to post, have had it for about a month now, but I can’t even be bothered to post it.
I’ve decided to do another mix sometime soonish and see how I feel after it, if I’m still not loving it, then they’re out the door…..
Like I say I’ve got my best mates 1210’s so I could use them if I sell my CD decks, so it’s not all over. I’ve also got about 1500 12″s so there might be a load of old skool house mixes in the future…..but judging from my rapidly decreasing interest for the past month or so don’t get your hopes up….
I never thought for a moment that I’d lose interest, but almost overnight it’s happened. It takes so much time with the CD burning, bpm’ing, hunting for tunes, and mixing that I just find it all a real chore now.
Really really enjoyed this, funky breaks, tight mixes, etc – until about 10 mins before the end. Sorry guys, but the happy house didn’t work for me.
Dangerscouse – fair play for taking a break, if you’re not feeling it then pause and reflect. I know how much time and effort goes into making mixes at a quality level you’re happy with and it shouldn’t feel a chore. I’m sure you’ll come back stronger for it. Only get rid of the decks altogether and get on Ableton!
Well I for one really liked this mix, not so much the tunes but for the way it was seamlessly put together. As for loosing interest, dont worry it happens to us all, there is only so much novelty ego stroking in proving to others how well you can mix. Try stopping & take a break if the passion returns & something starts to rock your boat, then take it out for a spin, on decks, CD’s, software, whatever, dont matter much to the ears on how (or what) it was created.
Cheers HDD, for both the comments about the mix (which always mean a lot from your goodself), and the advice on DJing….
I’m not going to sell the decks just yet, but I’m gonna use the 1210’s (sometime in the future when the desire returns) and get used to them with a view to using Serato.
Great mix. I liked the transition through the genres. I’m not normally interested enough in breaks or drum & bass to listen to an entire mix of it (gets boring very quickly unless expertly done) so this works a treat.

Cheers Swamps……I am a noob after all

Oh look a In A Gadda Da Vida I’ve never heard.
Lovin’ it! Only got to track 2 and I wanna do the electric boogaloo. thx

Top colab. Gonna do it again ?
Thanks. 🙂

Ahhh, thats really sad news mate.
If that scenario pans out, then you will be missed round here, for sure.
Personally, all your mixes really float my boat, so I would maybe miss your output more than most.
Hope things work out right for you n yours.
And best o luck with the new job btw.
🙂
Cheers for the comments.

i’d say – have a break from it, you’ll come back stronger and enthused. i did that and i’m firing on all cylinders nowadays!
Cheers Mark & Len…..it’s probably the best idea.
Not interested in Ableton tbh, even though it makes it so much easier, if I’m gonna do a mix then I need to be doing it with decks or not at all.
As for the Axwell tune, I knew it was risky, but you win some, you lose some……

A few of my mates use Serato and love it as you get the best of both worlds, all your mp3’s but played in a traditional way.
Probably an urban myth but did’nt RZA from the Wu Tang help invent final scratch?
No idea tbh Mike…..I’ve never heard that rumour, but that means nothing!
Cheers Ed, glad you liked it.
well – as usual, I’m late to the party. loved this one — nice “genre spanning” here from both of you.
damn you for using tracks that I had set aside for some “future mix” of my own… oh well – first come, first served!
