I knew this self-posting wasn’t a good idea for me to try and do…….link ain’t working and I’m struggling to figure it out.
Anyways…..starts off fairly slow and shimmers along for about half the mix, with a smattering of humour from Chris Morris and Tom Green then picks up into funky hiphop etc. Overall I have got mixed feelings about it as a mix, so I thought you fellow boombers should have a say………
1. Miriam Makeba- Quit It
2. One Self- Bluebird
3. Shirley Bassey- Easy Thing To Do (Nightmares on Wax remix)
4. Darondo- Let My People Go
5. Nino Moschella- Are You For Real?
6. Little Barrie- Stones Throw
7. Dead Prez- Bigger Than Hip Hop (instrumental)
8. Chris Morris- Bushwhacked
9. Tom Green- Whack
10. The Coup- My Favourite Mutiny
11. Johnny Five- Bohemian Funkman
12. Ursula 1000- Two Tone Rocka
13. Dj Zeph- Frogs
14. Big Daddy Kane- Lean On Me
15. Kleptones- Potato Salad
16. Soul Coughing- Dissemminated
17. Atmosphere- Panic Attack
18. Elektrons- Get Up
19. Little Barrie- Long Hair (Stereo MC’s remix)
20. Money Mark- Hand In Your Head
Next mix is gonna be funky breaks (post it in a few weeks), already mixed it and I’m well chuffed with it. Great tunes to get you ready for going out.
Good one! Selection is fine & the transitions work smoothly.I knew all of one track-#16.Most fave cut is ‘quit it’.Loved the tune & the words sure were timely for events here.
Thanks also for the humour smattering. 😀 😀 😀 😀 8) 8) 8)
Are there really kidneys in the pie or are they some type of bean?
Got to agree with ya about ‘Quit It’ in terms of appropriateness. My fav tune on there is “Potato Salad”, if only because The Kleptones haven’t made another tune that I have heard that even sounds similar, nevermind as good. As for Soul Coughing, that tune is a current favourite; the album is worth checking as well. It’s all kind of eccentric hiphop and beats.
Cheers for the comments Use08, glad you liked it!!
Doctor Fact is knocking at the door — please, let the man in!
And then it hits you: a moment in your mind where leisure suits, fake wood on cars, and vinyl records were all the norm. “Hand Shaped Air” sits you down and informs you that you may be stressed, but feel this rhythm: there’s a lot more to worry about.
And what are you worried about? The mix kicks off with the funk of “Quit It” and continues into downtempo / hip-hop territory with only the most powerful and impassioned vocals backing them, such as Shirley Bassey’s number. You should be doing laundry now, or perhaps washing your car on a fine sunny day.
The guitars twang and the singers wail until — what’s this? Your casual saunter manifests into a nodding head when President Bush gives a confessional over Dead Prez’s standout instrumental (But thank Dave Chapelle for that). The intensity of the funk picks up a notch with “My Favorite Mutiny” but remains funky throughout, as Big Daddy Kane will tell you. There are no standout tracks in this set; each cut is quality. Hand Shaped Air hands you no duds. “Long Hair On Your Face” into “Hand In Your Head” will leave you feeling like Jung from the movie “Blow”.
Like a mix drink that gets you laid, this mix contains all the finest elements of “badass” from the past 40 or so years. What are you worried about again? With this mix playing, things are bound to get better.
Great mix DS, wicked tunes and I can’t hear anything wrong with the mixing, great to hear some Ursula 1000! 😀 Is there another tune in between Kleptones and Soul Coughing though? What’s the one with all the “die pig die” samples in it?
Hhhmmm, not sure now if I’ve missed out a track on the list; I’ll check. As for the mixing, it goes badly astray on the DJ Zeph and Big Daddy Kane mix and I think somewhere else as well; glad you can’t notice it, but I almost done another version of it as I was thinking that it almost ruined it for me.
Will be playing some more Ursula 1000 tunes & remixes in my up and coming mixes, always worthy of a play.
So is the Kleptones track the one with Chali 2Na on it then? That’s what confused me, I heard that one, then an instrumental with those samples, then the Soul Coughing, but maybe the Kleptones has a really long instrumental bit at the end?
Sorry mate, you’re right, I’ve missed out the Breakestra feat. Chali 2na & Akil “Family Rap” tune. Should be in between Big Daddy Kane & Soul Coughing.
Great mix – you’ve got the funk/hip-hop mix off to a tee. Agree that the first tune was the most memorable. As far as the mixing goes, it was only number 2 into number 3 that didn’t really fit for me.
Cheers Matrix! Interesting comment about the mixin’; I know what you mean about that one but I think that the DJ Zeph/Breakestra mix is borderline bad enough to start again. But like I said I’m too critical of my own mixes.
Got two more ready to post, and another four listed out ready to mix! One of them is far more eclectic (musc like your own cracking choice of tunes) and another is semi-chilled.

what a gorgeous selection of tunes this one is!
love the miriam makeba, i’ve got a tune called ‘why cry’ by afu ra that uses that break and i’ve always wondered where it came from! Lovely almost acoustic version of hand in your head at the end, and Johnny5 and the coup are wicked new ones on me.
I don’t hear any probs with the mixing, but I’m the same, I’ve never done a mix that doesn’t have a bit that pisses me off. I always think though if you can hear a bit of human intervention at least you know your listening to a propa dj not a machine 😉
Miriam Makeba is worth looking out for, lovely soulful tunes.
The Coup are worth looking for as well; some crackers, some good, some just alright, bit like Giant Panda imo, but overall a good listen.
Jonny Five is a great album, well worth a listen. All types of tempos, but always funky, jazzy, party style hiphop.
As for the mixing, I think that about other people mixes, but not my own!! Always pick faults in my own mixes.
Also recommend (if you haven’t got them already) Fdel- Audiofdelity and The Bongolian- Blueprint; both of them are albums that are always on my mp3/stereo at the moment.

3 more additions to the northwest massive…. mwude, swampmaster and denzil
chip buttie anyone?
I’m a Wallasey kid myself. Downloading this now Dangerman.
Chip buttie and gravy……northern boys love gravy!!
I do miss the pie dinners from the chippie. Can’t get Holland’s pies down here; ain’t quite the same no matter how pissed I get.
Listened to this at work today and loved it listening to it again now as laptop speakers didn’t do it justice.
This is the shit!
Cheers Buffster, glad your enjoyin’ it.
I’m well chuffed with the Dead Prez & Chris Morris bit, just stumbled across it when I was messing around

Not listened yet but mine’s a Balti Pie and pint of moild ploise… 😉
Ha ha ha, what you need is a steak and kidney pie…..everytime! 😉

Yeah, they are real kidney’s! 😆

Got to it at last, well funky. Good work mate. Your’e right about The Kleptones/Soul Coughing as well. 😀 😀 😀
Cheers H.P., glad you liked it. I am almost certain that you’ll always hear funk in my mixes; I’m always looking for it in a tune and a mix.
I’m disappointed with my mixing at times, and that’s why I have got mixed feelings about it. I’m just too self-critical of my own mixes.

Wow, cheers Vepik, that’s one hell of a review!! I need to put more thought into my comments.
