I am a partial to techno and the harder edge sound. I always like your mixes so I doubt that this will be an exception….
Was gonna out ‘Rej’ on my electro house mix; that’s really grown on me recently and I like the Trentemoeller tunes I’ve heard recently, and of course ‘Love Story’ is a classic tune.
Brilliant tracklist, Len. I could listen to any of these separately even though this isn’t exactly my thing house/electro-wise, you’ve put some real greats past and present together though and that’s what it’s about here for me.
Lenodd has officially declared winter over, and it’s about time. I mean don’t get me wrong — it’s a beautiful season, but so damn cold… which is no mystery to this transitional mix. Taking chilled melodies from winter and infusing them with the crisp beats of spring, this mix will thaw you out with a smooth yet bustlin’ vibe.
“Deep Burnt” smooths you out with it’s fading strings and mellow beat, well into the dubby “Paper Moon” before you’re given a special dose of Isolee’s remixing talent. Cardiology is spacey, funky, and goes from twangy to acidy without a hint of struggle. The funk carries into an upbeat, acidline session with the following tracks and winds up at the urgent, tech-house sound of “Rej” which serves as the transitional cut for the mix. Al James takes the tech sound and adds smooth keys and funk to get you bouncing a bit before reaching the mellow, bassed out James Holden remix of “The Sky Is Pink”. By the time you reach Davine’s cut, you’re either in upbeat deep house, or mellow techno, depending on your personal definition of genres. Trentmoeller adds his kitched-out talent to the set, but the real moment comes from the transition of “Big Fun” into “Love Story” for a closer. The mix almost *almost* ventured into a harder territory that would have alienated the mix; not so with the closing cuts.
The mix starts off with a smooth, deep sound and gradually gets a techno enhancement throughout the set. This set’s versitality and embrace for both genres is matched equally by the mixing ability, leaving you with a set that works to either keep you dubbin’ for winter nights or bumpin’ for spring evenings. Bottom line: there’s no excuse not to listen.
On a side note, I try to play other mixes out besides my own (It’s tough but hey I crack sometimes) and this set was playing tonight while a small group of us were drinking and just being rowdy overall.
