Very spooky, very layered ambient dreamscape. This obviously took a lot of prep and time, and paid off. You also placed the samples very carefully so that it is a fluid mix, which makes it a straight through listen.
Thanks chaps 🙂
A couple of things kicked this one off originally: hearing the Chris Watson tracks and having a long-time plan for closing a mix with the 2001 sample. Took a while to squirrel away tracks in a similar mood – a few came from watching movies (the Micachu track is from Under The Skin, the Popul Vuh track is from Aguirre: Wrath of God and the Mark Kozelek track is from Youth). Surprised myself by using anything by that tool Kanye West, but the track made me eat my pride.
On the album that the Chris Watson tracks come from: …a sound portrait of a now-abandoned railway line that used to run between the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of Mexico… Captured by sound recordist Chris Watson more than a decade ago, it jostles with human, animal and mechanical life, filling the room with an atmosphere that is more richly evocative of Central America than any TV travel show…diesel engines thrum, cicadas chirrup and passengers chatter, sing and argue…

Intrigued. I’ll have to lend my ears to this.
Dense, unnerving in places, does everything you want from ambient, challenging you and sounding like a movie soundtrack. Excellent.
