Mingus – Myself When I Am Real
Sebastien Tellier – Adieu Comme Un Jeu
Black Jazz Chronicles – Up and Down
Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here
Laurel Halo – Out 1
Francesco Tristano – Nach Wasser Noch Erde
Hauschka – Long Walk
Gonzales – So Called Knight Moves
Derrick May – Strings Of Life
Sebastien Tellier – Hypnose
Vangelis – Bike Riders
The Caretaker – Moments of Sufficient Lucidity
For whatever reason I was totally in the mood for this, accompanying me on an autumnal walk through the royal parks in London. It’s really good, Strings of Life seems somehow out of place, less wistful than the other tunes, but I still smiled as its a tune close to my heart (2am Ministry of Sound about 15 years ago). All in all, great stuff and a likely alternative Xmas soundtrack for me.
Awesome! Thanks Len. I was listening to a lot of piano tracks and wanted to do something more organic this time. Each mix starts with one track, and for me it was the Gonzales one. There are many clips of him live, this one he sat on the floor and another guy accompanied him on the piano standing. He is very funny and entertaining, and you can hear that in his playing. I had to play out of that into another dance classic played purely on the piano. The track I couldn’t tell if it was needed was the Bike Riders from Blade Runner OST. And Caretaker, well, his albums are the soundtrack to the haunted ballroom in the Shining.
Uber Alles album is fun. It was when he was dating(ish) Peaches, sorta white guy knows he can’t rap thing. Check out his Breezblock on Youtube (hilarious and eclectic), also his live shows on Youtube. My fave albums of his are Soft Power (an ode to AOR) and Ivory Tower (check the video for You Can Dance). Humor and talent, and blends genres.
