Here’s the first chapter of a 50 birthday dub selection I’m putting together for an old pal turning fifty in late august (check out the last FIVE-O selection). I’m doing them in blocks and then putting them together as one mix… here’s the first part.
If anyone remembers the Dubsta series I did five years ago you’ll know the style and some of the dubplates… how time flies…
Big thanks also goes out to Tone from Version Big-fi for some crucial dub recommendations…
“…this is not MONO …this is not STEREO …this is for folks with MORE than two ears!â€
p.s. The cover is a 1984 snap of Dennis our neighbour back in the Peckham rub-a-dub dayz…
What an awesome mix! Captures the best of dub with the blend of organic and dancehall echoes. I have a dub elements type mix working on, but I have to bow to this, blows most everything out of the water.
Right from track 1, it took me back to happy times spent in a pub called The Egypt Cottage, which was pretty much part of the old Tyne Tees TV studios that used to grace City Road here in Toon town, home of the (in)famous Tube in the early 80’s.
As well as some wonderful dub on the juke, the bar hosted a sound from London village on a couple of occasions, and one of the regulars there once did me a rather splendid mix made up primarily of Prince Far I versions which I treasured for many many years.
This mix is packed fulla pure quality, & is sparkin many happy memories.
Not to mention it bein the perfect summer soundtrack btw !!!
To borrow from Jazzie B – A happy face,a thumpin bass, for a lovin race.
Cheers fellas, really appreciate the cool feedback… many many thanks
Firestopper, most of the tracks here have fond memories attached to them, dub music has been a constant soundtrack & travelled far and wide with me over the years… the Prince Far I trks are mates favs too…
Yeah Dennis in his “Gregory Issac’s” attire was as sharp as it came in those days – such a positive gentleman 😉
Cheers again Len & Steve, chuffed it meets your high standards 😉 The Dub With A Difference (dub with violins etc) comes off the Dub Conference Vol 1 album from Harry Mudie with King Tubby (1975) – there were three volumes in all – full of very progressive dub!
Thanks for dropping by Lionel, the Black Gun Pablo dub is a recent listen for me – one of my b’day pal’s recommendations 😉
Hi SAT, Not sure how I missed this and it has all been said in comments above but this is very, very good. Will take a copy down the pub tonight for me mate’s 52nd birthday, he’ll love this, cheers hp 🙂

inna rubadub style! Loved it – pure booming vibes
Immaculate selection – I love the track with the violins at about 41 mins.
I’ve been from here for too long and this was the first mix I checked out! Fantastic stuff from the start – can’t wait to listen to it again!
Thanks for including Black Gunn! Great track that I’d totally overlooked.
Again – Excellent mix!
