It paints the picture in sound of the evils of gambling using found sounds from Casinos and gambling jointz, including roulette wheels, cards, money and of course pokie machines.
I’ve never gambled in my life, never bought a lottery ticket, never been in a TAB, and never sat there all day feeding money into a slot machine. However, I do find the human drama of gambling fascinating, that chase of the big win to the fall of loosing it all. Here you will hear stories of tragedy, insatiable greed, madness & the never ending pursuit of money, all encompassed within a musical bed with a strong narrative over the top. The Night Air is usually an audio collage spoken word type show, so it’s meat & potatoes is in these spoken audio cut ups. This is not a DJ (dance) mix & demands (to a certain extent) your undivided attention.
This is how Brent Clough the main producer of the show described me & the mix.
“DJHDD, who’s more formally known as DJ Hickory Dickory Doc, is a sample surgeon of impressive dexterity. This evening he slices and stitches his way through interviews, sermons, pop songs, and carefully chosen bits of media detritus to assemble a lurching monster of a Night Air mix. After it’s animated, the monster’s only tasks are to warn you about the seductive perils of gambling & to pour you another martini and accompany you to the casino.â€
The Night Air also runs an extensive experimental artist website where you can find plenty of audio/visual content.
It’s a good feeling to now officially be called an ABC working artist but a 1000 miles away from those first DJ’ing days of the past. Then I would be playing to get people to get up & dance, nowadays I ask people to sit down & listen.
Been loving your stuff since the KLF NYE days, Further Hallucinations was cool too — but this is a good mix to just sit and listen to, even just for the Dean Martin clip.
Nice mix mate. A great little journey and as per usual peerlessly put together. The sort of mix that allows for repeated playings. Loved the Twilight Zone inclusion, cheers hp 🙂

Awesome mix to actually play Poker with 🙂

Well done, old son.
Thanks for the comments guys, not sure this is going to be everyone’s cuppa tea but I believe if you have listened then it’s important to comment.

He He – I have no idea what a “mullet top trump” is – sounds like a card game for 80’s rockers.
