After nine weeks of coma my grandfather died last Thursday. I decided to dedicate a mix to him using some of his old records. He was an avid record collector. My grandfather always loved swing music, even listened to it during WW2 when Hitler banned those records. One of the last things he said before falling into the coma was that he would never forgive his father for not letting him study music and becoming a musician. The cover photo by the way is one of the last pictures of him, taken by a security camera at a record store.
1) The Matthew Herbert Big Band – Turning Pages
2) Bobby Hackett – Sentimental Blues
3) Glenn Miller/The Universal-International Studio Orchestra – Tuxedo Junction
4) Kurt Edelhagen und sein Orchester – Die Dreigroschenoper
5) Kurt Edelhagen – The Hokey Cokey
6) Duke Ellington – Kinda Dukish
7) Boots Mussulli Quartet – Tico Tico
8) Enoch Light – Just One Of Those Things
9) Art Blakeys Jazz Messengers – Are You Real
10) Enoch Light – I Get A Kick Out Of You
11) The Carey-Garfin Four – Fly Me To The Moon
12) Ronnie Scott Quartet – September Song
13) Delta Rhythm Boys – Dry Bones
14) Slim Gaillard – Sploghm
15) Ted Heath – In The Mood
16) Ted Heath – Two O’Clock Jump
Your grandfather’s influence is now being felt world wide thru his grandson’s love of music as well as his own passion exemplified here!
Thank you DJ XNet, your granddad is surely proud!
