This looks hot enough to have it’s own solar system 😉 Fuck me, you’ve pulled out all the stops on this one aint ya?!?!
Gonna enjoy this…
haha cheers stu, and thanks for uploading 😉
Yeah this is my first proper mix since having serato so I wanted to make the most of combining stuff on vinyl with mp3s/Sonny J stuff etc. I also decided to do this one in a fairly traditional not too much scratching and mucking about stylee and I recorded it in pretty much 2 single take sections (with a gap in the middle to fix my mixer!)
enjoy…
I could tell I was going to enjoy this one by looking at tracklisting. Such a good mix! I’ve just downloaded your other two mixes, have listend to one of them and was equally impressed, that White/Stripes/Format bootleg is pretty special! Look forward to hearing the remaining one.
halfway through and this is superb. was going to ask how you put it together – serato seems incredible. love the obama bit and you chose by far the best cut off the grey album. off to listen to more now! 🙂
I’m seriously contemplating the move to Serato now that I’ve got two SL1210’s…
cheers guys 😉
serato is amazing. I still don’t use it to its full potential in terms of loops and cue points etc. I don’t really go there. I just use it as a method of effectively getting anything I want onto vinyl (eg. the obama clip i found on youtube). For that it can’t really be beat! I love being able to change between my records and digital files at the flick of a switch. I’m still a traditionalist at heart so I just mix live and record it into garage band as i go.
Set list looks great. Downloading now. I’ve got to run an errand that’s gonna have me in the car for an hour this morning, so this should make a nice soundtrack for me 🙂
well in, great paaaarty mix
MMMMM i like the look of dis sir, we must hook up… I must see you spinnnn
loving the mix man, got the flatmates bumpin too! some killer cuts too, the way you chopped up ‘chief rocka’ was ridiculous…
big respect from all chez kid who!! 🙂
What can i say Hmmmmm PERFECT
Serato seems to be a good toy to have.
Haven’t listened to any b0x mixes for a while now and thought I’d have a go at catching up with the ones that took my fancy…
…this was the first…and what a mix it was!
There were a few tracks I wasn’t so keen on, but the flow and variety of cuts, blends & scratches kept the whole thing rolling along very nicely indeed!
I haven’t had the opportunity to use serato yet, but on the evidence of this; it a decent bit of kit!
Have you got the Rane mixer with it built in, or the separate serato box thingy?
Anyway, top work RB, looking forward to hearing the SJ album even more now! 😀
cheers man, glad you likes!
I have the seperate serato box. I have a rane TTM-56 mixer too but i got that about 5 years ago… I’m quite jealous of the new ones with serato built in!
Yeah, they look very nifty indeed! Makes you wonder where digital DJing will be 5 years from now?!
Much as I admire all these new interfaces, I can’t help thinking the being a DJ 5 years from now isn’t going to mean all that much, especially will all these advances in auto beat matching and leveling etc.
I don’t know if its possible already, but soon the mixes will be cued up, cut up, blended, scratched and stunted all automatically and to perfection…
…or maybe I’m being paranoid…
I know what ya mean Tom… i’d love to be a traditionalist i.e. playing vinyl but I haven’t got the money or space for vinyl, but I don’t want to see too many more advances in DJing as all of the fun for me is in the mixing… and the fuck ups as well in a strange way 😉
Luvit Luvit Luvit !!!
🙂
tom – don’t you think tune selection is the most important thing for a dj rather than the mixing? anyhoo – this is a great mix, party hearty mixed with superior skills – nice work indeed
thanks Lenodd and senor stopper! ; )
Interesting debate here, for me I think both tune selection and mixing skills are pretty much equally important, but as a dj I think tune selection, the ability to read an audience etc, are the harder to develop. I would rather watch a dj like Giles Peterson or Norman Jay whose mixing is fairly basic than some scratch dj’s who can be a bit style over substance. I also agree with Tom, and I hate the way most commercial mix cd’s are all auto sequenced by computer. One of the things i love about serato is the fact that it doesn’t do anything for you; levels, tempo and beat matching are all down to you as they always were, and unlike some cd decks it doesn’t tell you bpms either.
I totally agree with Stu, the fun of djing is in the mixing and the fuckups!
Yeah, I’ve got to agree. Tune selection is the most important aspect of DJing (unless of course; you are at the DMC National Championships) but I just have this vision that sooner or later clubs are going to have play lists built for them and then the play lists will be left to run all night. Like 6 hours of pre-selected Dubstep for example.
Having said that, its not much different to DJ’s who have rehearsed a set at home prior to the gig, and no matter what the crowd is like (even if they hate whats being played), they stick to the set as they know all of the cue, c/f, cut and scratch points.
Also the cash margins for night clubs are becoming tighter and cutting out the DJ is one way of saving money – sometimes substantially so.
I know its not quite the same, but I did mobile DJing for about 2 years, and I eventually got replaced by a laptop…
…I have to admit, I’m quite bitter about it, but from the people who were hiring me’s point of view – it made financial sense to do it. meh
lets transfer this to the forum eh? 🙂
Well, I’ve just done it – see you for a natter over there!
Every bit as good as I hoped it would be!! I surrender with the Chief Rocka mix, there’s no way I could even come close to that 😉 did you have two copies on the go?
yeah, I’m just starting to learn how to do a bit of beat juggling… that’s one of my favourite little tricks actually, 2 copies with one a beat behind the other and get busy on the fader! 😉
thanks a lot man, really glad you liked it 🙂 hopefully this is the beginning of a new era of productivity!
ya rascal… I’m gonna have to try and do that now…
It better had be more productivity… I can’t wait another 12 months for another one 😉
Fantastic mix – in the first section – some of the best reggae mixing I’ve heard for a while. And loved the Sonny J tunes at the end. I’m going to have to try watch you guys dance the tango live one of these days.. Can we have some more………..(please!)Â
shit me!
Â
this mix is on fire – but i hadnt imagined the chief rocker madness was yourself juggling – thats a highlight of the whole mix fo sure
