Some bits are better than others… i.e. some mixes didn’t work out how I wanted them to, but I’m working so hard on another mix that this kind of suffered as a consequence.
Hopefully the tunes should pull it through the rough bits…
Cheers fellas… I didn’t listen back to this before I posted it, now that I have tbh I seriously contemplated taking it down and re-doing it… too many mistakes for my liking.
I’ve been getting quite obsessesed over another eclectic mix that has taken over all of my mixing attention and this was posted in a hurry. The next one will be technically better at the very least… whether or not the tunes are better is down to opinion 😉
i enjoyed the openers, but that gangstarr remx didnt do it for me i’m afraid. also, the levels are a bit more variable than your usual high standards as well
that said, i liked the vibe – i think you’d be ace out in a bar – buckets of funk and decent mixing. good work mate
Cheers everyone. I know that most of it was alright, but I become an insufferable perfectionist when I’m listening to my own mixes… other people’s mixes and I’m so laid back about mistakes that it doesn’t matter.
TBH Len, my mind was elsewhere when I was mixing, has been since Dangerspouse had her op, but I feel the need to mix when I get stressed. I haven’t had much spare time to do much at all, so the mixing has been short and sharp… and the levels have been up and down 😉 First (and last) time that I haven’t listened to it before posting.
I’ve also figured out how to normalise the mix automatically rather than my patchy attempts at keeping an eye on the monitor levels. Should be alright from now on…
Only 17 mins in but really liking this one indeed!
Oh, and I activated my eMusic account a moment ago so you should have those free D/L’s ready to go! 🙂
Wow, that was a bit of a journey! 😀
Well aside from the obvious classics which were irresistible I particularly liked the Alice Russell track as well as that Soul Of Man track which added one last blast of funk prior to the closing tune.
I thought the mixing was pretty damn good throughout and the first 5 tracks in particular were mixed to perfection.
All in all a pretty wicked collection of tunes here Stu. Thanks muchly! 😀
Enjoy emusic Tom, I usually run out of downloads within about 2 days of getting them…and then have to wait almost a whole month until the next lot.
I got that Jazz Jamaica Allstars track on emusic.com, Benchmark. Send me a private message on the forum with your email and I’ll recommend you. That way we both get free downloads. I think that there’s a whole album of their cover versions on there.
I know what you mean, within an hour of being on the site I was down to 3 downloads, now I have 2 left lol.
I reckon about 85% of all the music I have bought in the last 2-3 months has been either Jazz, Funk, House and a little bit of soul. I guess that shows what direction I’m heading musically at the moment.
I grabbed one of Breakestra’s albums, The Bamboo’s album, Nostalgia 77 Octet album and Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings album – a track or two of which will no doubt feature in my next mix… whenever I get around to recording it?!
Hi Stu again – your selections are just perfect for me – always loads of great up-beatness – enjoyed very much all the classics but really liked the “Make It Reggae” & “Inner City Blues” (new version for me)… keep em coming!
great mix!!! Totally enjoyed the entire ride! 🙂 Helped me get throgh my deadlines at work 🙂 “Gang Starr – Love Sick” ~ exellent track!!!!!!!! More Please 🙂
hey there stu — weighing in on this one late — but thanks for that uptempo journey… really enjoyed a lot of it.
I know you’re disappointed with some levels and stuff — but to me, that’s not the stuff that matters… it where the mix takes us and not so much the technical perfection.
the only track that really didn’t do it for me was that Gang Starr one — I never have been able to get into Guru’s stuff.
absolutely loved jazz jamaica and steve wonder stuff — thanks! Inner City Blues, no matter what version it is always hits the mark! Hendrix… can do no wrong…
anyways – I have given this a few “spins” already and it’s definitely a keeper in my books…
holy flaming testicles of death, i walked out of the room as the mix started, when i restarted it, the first track is B-line-eautiful and cheesy to boot, get in!
Well Stu, I found my i-Pod in me back pack a few days ago, not havin listened to it for round 3/4 years, and was truly surprised at some of the stuff on there, that I’d completely forgotten about !! Had this beauty on me ears this mornin & again tonight, on todays bus journey. And its STILL makin me grin like a fool !! 🙂 Brilliantly eclectic, as your mixes were back then. BTW, I’m staggered that its 9 years old !!! See, good stuff lasts 🙂 Sadly, Ive gotten out of the bmbx habit, for too long, and I dont know why ? I loved your stuff, with bong, Swamp, S.A.T, & Len. Always floated my boat 🙂 Hope you n yours are all good amigo, and I’ll try to catch up with the sonics. 🙂

All over the place this time around… ranging from 87bpm to 120bpm at the end. Overall I think that it worked out alright.
Mixed live on my new decks… with some primitive scratching near the end!!!
on the download now!
Some bits are better than others… i.e. some mixes didn’t work out how I wanted them to, but I’m working so hard on another mix that this kind of suffered as a consequence.

As len says, nice vibe. Great choice of closing track too.
God, I love that Alice Russel track . . .
A lot of catchy songs greatly blended for a nice listening experience, my Ipod thanks you.
Great live mix imho.

Another really enjoyable mix, I liked the Gang Starr track and also the Stevie Wonder cover of ‘made to love her’ will have to go and hunt it down.
Cheers Tom and Benchmark.

There seems to be a sharing option on there as well, now that you’re signed up i’ll investigate it…
catching this late – on it now – love the opening version of ‘always there’ – great re-rub
The Side Effect version has to be one of our all time favs here…
Hi Stu again – your selections are just perfect for me – always loads of great up-beatness – enjoyed very much all the classics but really liked the “Make It Reggae” & “Inner City Blues” (new version for me)… keep em coming!
Cheers Steve, had a feeling that you might like it.
I got ‘Make It Reggae’ from 300% Dynamite and ‘Inner City Blues’ and ‘Fuzz & Da Boog’ from Breaks Sessions, both are well worth a purchase.
great mix!!! Totally enjoyed the entire ride! 🙂 Helped me get throgh my deadlines at work 🙂 “Gang Starr – Love Sick” ~ exellent track!!!!!!!! More Please 🙂
Cheers GC! 🙂 ‘Love Sick’ was the track that set me off on this mix… can’t get enough of it.
