30 the caveman chronicles (edit)
straight from the van bolwski institute – here it is… volume 5 of the “roofers vs. records” trilogy(?!).
this is another one of those mixes I make for “the kids at work” — straight up chaos and all over the map… includes classic rock, hip hop, some punk rock and a whole bunch of bootleg mash-ups. filled with inside jokes, over the top profanity and spoken word samples — what else could you ask for?! hey Mr. Greencheese – it’s not kid safe!
the title references a guy I work with — with definite caveman tendencies! 2 covers were made for this cd — the standard edition and a “variant” cover featuring my caveman co-worker… so you can choose which you want on your ipod…
many thanks to Jimbalaya (for a kick-ass instrumental intro track), Kong (for more custom voice work), DJ BC (for some scrathing) and my brother, the dirt-dog for a lot of tedious and time consuming design work on the covers…!
well, in true stoner fashion — I fucked up on the credits…
not DJ BC — but my thanks to DJAW for his contributions (the scratching) — I really appreciate it man…! you can find DJAW’s work here on b00mb0x — go check it out:
Excellent work as ever, with all the hallmarks of a classic Megatrip mix: great intro, eclectic tunes and some seriously wierd samples all skillfully stiched together. I particularly liked the radio skits which showcased some of the darker, and more embarrassing, corners of your record collection.
Inevitably with a mix this diverse some tunes didn’t hit the mark for me, particularly the guitar rock and some of the mashups which relied on overly familiar breaks. That said, that Kenny Rogers track is one of my faves, and I particulary enjoyed Red Astaire, PB & Joy (who is the “Joy to the world” track by?), that daft punk mash, and even found myself liking Lily Allen for a change (don’t tell anyone)!
And where the hell did you get all the caveman samples from?!
thanks so much for your kind words ORU! I’m constantly putting songs and samples aside for mixes — but when it comes to making the actual mix – it only takes me a day or so…
This one jumped the queue by about 3 weeks after I saw ‘China Groove’ in the set list, which is one of my all time favourite rock ‘n’ roll tracks.
Only about 10 or so mins in but this is great stuff! 😀
Will report back once I’ve listened to it all! 😀
Well I’ve had a good ole listen to this and I have to say that I quite like it as I thought I might.
I have to admit I wasn’t keen on a couple of the mash-ups. For me, some of them didn’t really work but that’s just my take on them.
I did, however, really like how you put the tracks together, using snippets of other tracks and blending them as though someone was changing radio stations. That was class! 😀
Certainly something I’ll be listening to again! 😀
Thanks!
Hey There King!!! OK, I’m starting the journey 🙂 Thank you for the “it’s not kids safe warning” 🙂 I appreciate that… ugh!!! 10 seconds in and already a f**k… still I have to listen all-the-way-thru so I can enjoying your mixing… wheeew!!! ok… made it through the first obscene 2:00 minutes… geeesh!!! Auh doubies, ok this is nicer 🙂 Will come back after the trip and let you know how it went 🙂
OK, well I had to do a lot of fast forwarding, sorry… not man enough to make it all the way through I guess… I tried though… Loved the “AC/DC/QUEEN/OZZY/ZEPPELIN)” mashup (09 go home productions – rock in black)… The little 2 second Ozzy Osborn bits where genuis!!! Lovely!!!! It was a great journey (aside from all the smut) 🙂

thanks so much for your kind words ORU! I’m constantly putting songs and samples aside for mixes — but when it comes to making the actual mix – it only takes me a day or so…
thanks again – I appreciate the comment!
also if you liked this mix – the other ones that are along the same lines are
vol.1 – Ass2Ass
vol.2 – Accidents Will Happen
vol.3 – Balls Deep
vol.4 – The Van Bowlski Brothers
all available here at b00mb0x — enjoy!
Another highly enjoyable mix! Not all the songs were in my wheelhouse, but I love the all-over-the-map element. Can’t wait for your next offering!
thanks for the kind words guys –
chief sawhorse – next up will be my Solid Steel mix that aired a couple weeks ago:
http://www.ninjatune.net/solidsteel/playlist.php?id=512
and after that – back to the archive for a nice little downtempo mix.
Mr. Lovely – I owe you an email (and it’ll be today, for sure) but again thanks.
Joy to the World is done by Three Dog Night — and you should see how many “caveman” samples were left on the cutting room floor!

Agree with Tom… some of the mash-ups weren’t my cup of tea. That tuning of the radio was fuckin excellent, really impressed with that.
I also enjoyed the move towards more of classic/ 80’s rock than the modern day rock from the other mixes.
Overall it was a great listen. Cheers Matt.
