Hello again, here’s my first solo audio-only mix for a while. It’s mainly an ambient, atmospheric affair with a few more upbeat sections thrown in. Sleepy, romantic, melancholy and silly.
Tracklist:
1 - 5am - Kenickie
2 - Overtime Work - Yoshinori Sunahara
3 - The Goodbye Highway - Tim ‘Love’ Lee
4 - Journey To Blofeld’s Hideaway - John Barry
5 - Mango Pickledown River - M.I.A.
6 - Girl Problem - Her Space Holiday
7 - Cardiac Arrest - Firefox AK
8 - Main Title - Saint Etienne
9 - Gold Bug - R.O.C.
10 - Together In Electric Dreams - Lali Puna
11 - Fat Cat - Amorphous Androgynous
12 - Lagoon West - Richard H Kirk
13 - Mena Creek Paronella Park Walk - Digifishmusic
14 - St Ives Bay - Tom Middleton
15 - Pretend It’s A Race And I’m On Your Side - James Figurine
16 - Snapshot - The Art Of Noise
17 - Trip 7 - Pete Namlook
18 - Another Fairytale Ending - Amorphous Androgynous
19 - Chesh - The Black Dog
20 - Niobe - Caribou
21 - Frosch - Mouse On Mars
22 - Love’s Theme - Barry White
23 - A While Ago And Recently - Erlend Oye
Great mix. Many tracks and artists I’m fond of. I love Lagoon West , I played it on the radio years back , it’s an epic track. I end up humming it at odd times. Amorphous, Mouse On Mars, lal Puna (603 is a gem by them), Love’s Theme by barry White, etc, you must have been in my vinyl bin. Great mix.
Yes, Lagoon West has always been one of my all-time favourites. It’s just so beautiful (and epic as you say). Really evocative, tranquil, and inspiring at the same time. That whole Richard H Kirk album is superb but Lagoon West has really stood the test of time for me.
The other two favourites for me on here are the Caribou and Erlend Oye tracks.
Niobe has got such a totally unique sound. It’s the most banging and mellow at the same time - really inventive. The whole Caribou album is great, but none of it sounds like this.
“A while ago and recently” is just amazing. Right up there with my favourite songs of the last few years. The music and lyrics are unhurried and understated. The whole thing has a real melancholy beauty.
I’d definitely agree with the FSOL / Amorphous recommendations. Their essential mix from 1993 is basically why I’m here doing these mixes.
Thanks for the comments guys, hope you all like the mix.
enjoyed this one ed - some tunes I will definitely be digging for; the vibe and the samples were excellent. Chesh as always is a winner and I think that mouse on mars tune was amazing (if thats the right one).
Top stuff as usual Edward… hats off. I haven’t paid close attention to the tracklist (yet), but there’s a couple of excellent bits that sound like ambient versions of some classic dance tracks I remember from the 90’s. Hang on, I remember them does that mean I wasn’t really there?
Thanks for the nice comments everyone - makes it all worthwhile. (Obviously I do it for the love of the music etc etc, but I do like to get my ego stroked every now and then!).

That’s probably the Caribou track which I reckon is a dead-ringer for Binary Finary but isn’t credited anywhere. I’m sure you were there in the 90’s, maybe you’re just remembering the tracks from a Ministry of Sound TV Ad?
It’s more sinister than that, I actually watch you 24hrs and wait until you’re in just the right mood before posting a new mix! I’m glad all that surveilance effort paid off this time…

Gotta say that, listening to this for the first time, I was reminded somewhat of some of bongs earlier mixes ?
Please take that as a compliment btw.
Yeah, definitely a compliment. I’m always amazed with Bong’s mixes how he gets them so detailed and densely packed while still posting one pretty much every month.
Ta very much all (apart from that “Don Goodwin” character), Ed
ha ha ha!!! In that case you’ve been watching me dogging… don’t tell anyone
Also meant to mention how good it was to hear Amorphous Androgynous again… used to batter their album with a load of mates in my first year of Uni (’93) smoking something that should remain anonymous……
Unless I’m totally mistaken that was a pseudonym for FSOL.
Very keen to listen to this, but it’s just hung twice whilst downloading - will try again another time.
Thanks for the fsol.disenchanted.com link Edward, I’m a massive FSOL fan, and interested that the 93 Essential Mix was the one that set you off, as for me it was a tape of the 94 mix (complete with a Radio 1 Newsbeat about Tony Blair being favourite to win the Labour leadership contest!). I also loved that ISDN album they released soon after. I hadn’t heard the 93 mix, but have just downloaded and looking forward to listening. Hopefully my d/l will sort itself out soon, and I can listen to your mix too.
Mr_lovely: Thank Swamp for the link to FSOL stuff. It was a new one for me - there’s lots of FSOL goodness on that site I don’t have yet.
Maybe it’s just ‘cos it was the first one I heard, but the 93 mix is definitely my favourite. I can’t remember what was on NewsBeat that day though. I carefully dubbed over the news using excerpts from the Cascade CD single on my copy.
If you’re still having trouble downloading the mix, you can also get it from MixDownloads.Net or just e-mail me.
Ed, listened to this loads now. What can I say except Brilliaaaaaaant (on a Fast Show tip at the mo). Loved your clever little tweaks as usual, you’ve got a great ear for mixing stuff up m8.
Yeah that Disenchanted site is mind boggling. I spent a week last christmas clearing it out completely. Probably never get to listen to all of it but what a treasure trove of material. (I wish there was a similar site for The Orb - is there??) Like loads of peeps here if it wasn’t for the 93 FSOL Essential mix I would’nt be here now. Thank god it inpired so many of us. cheers hp
Absolutely loved this throughout (once I’d finally got it to download). Great vibe, inspired tunes and original samples. A really fresh sounding chilled mix that has plenty enough depth to make it a keeper. Thanks Edward.
Edward, this mix is awesome!!!! It’s like you picked out all my favorite electronic tracks! I love every track on this mix! I have been stuck in this rut of rock lately that I have not been able to escape. I DO beleive this mix has cured me for a while… I am back into electronix again.. WooHooo!!! Especially when I heard that classic Art Of Noise melody. I just love the old electronic anolog sound. I now know what my next mix will be… Back to my first love… electronic joy! Thanks for the inspiration.
Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever inspired anyone before. Cheers Green Cheese, I’m a big fan of your more electronic mixes as you know so I’m glad to hear I’ve got you back in the mood for one.
Edward, Once again, I want to thank you for the inspiration. As a result, I have finished my new mix Green Cheese Vol 42 (Houston We Have A Problem)… Check it out when you get a moment… sooo glad to be back into electronix! Forgot how embedded that is into my soul! Takes me way back!
swamp : well, play iz 26 & feed iz 4. so thats deffo 30
matrix : back to zero... let's just assume only 1000 of those downloads were real hehe
matrix : no idea where the links to my mix are coming from... so i've renamed the mix
Der DiskothekerTM : Thanx bong!
bong : corrected
Der DiskothekerTM : dear ops, there is a mistake in the artists list of My House Is Built Of Rock.: the name is Alan Vega, not Aöan ... big thanks if you could correct it
AbeTwist : Still it looks cool, 1215 dl's Hate the fact that MJ's dead by the way, came as sort of a shock
matrix : not guilty, m'lord.
Ken Masters : Michael Jackson RIP
swamp : itz not d/ls. theres bin a direct link posted somewheres, mayb several. so peeps iz klikin on the link repeatedly cos it wont werk. in reality, itz prob around the 50 d/l mark
Der DiskothekerTM : this is more than a hit, this is a miracle: more tham 1.000 downloads in a day on matrix' actual mix!
AbeTwist : wow, that was a fast upload!
swamp : ...promises, promises...
wyse : @Warvadal I've got a tracklist somewhere. I'll find it and upload.
bong : i think the recent database problems caused a flux with people not being able to view the site properly, which in turn would probably have had a knock on effect with the lack of downloads experienced for that 2 week period.. the rest? who knows!
ambientfusion : new mix in the works... been a while. hopefully have it uploaded soon.
Der DiskothekerTM : The box remains mysterious to me. Sometimes a mix runs to some hundreds of downloads in ten days, sometimes it's only a slow dropping even though there is no difference in quality. I'm participating since more than one year now and still don't understand how it works... Nevertheless big thanks to all the mixers who make me puzzle about this question!
Warvadal : @Mr. Wyse. I see you have a mix upload. Do you have a cover and/or tradklist to go with it? I will wait to post it until I hear from you. Peace.
bong : cheers for the fixes naz.. bmbx works great again.. Hurrah!
naz : welcome back
ihou : A Soulful house mix back from 2007 coming on it's way Cheers Mates!

bong : well in Max..
Max : Hey guys! Still enjoying the tapes for four years now! Keep it up!
Warvadal : @DJtec. I had some problems with your back cover. Had to resize it (too big). + I don't know if that's the way you wanted it to look (sideways), but that's how it was uploaded. Let me know. I'm out of town until sunday. Peace.
bong : oo ooo ooo ooo.rrrrrrrrrrrr e
dj readybreak : Cheers for the upload peeps, enjoy!
bong : cheers for the headsup
bong : ok. the mix is now vepiks but the comments are still wrong.. will try and see if this can be rectified

Not my usual mix of choice, but you came up trumps again mate.
Really enjoyed this, I think that I pick the right mood to listen to your mixes as sometimes I can’t be arsed with slower stuff.

R.I.P. The great Arthur C Clarke who’s work features throughout this mix.

Probably the smuggest writing style ever but always thought-provoking and entertaining.
