hey guys –
here’s a mix I cooked up a couple months ago for the excellent Royal Groove website — (http://www.royalgroove.org/) – a fantastic semi-monthly webradio show always featuring a better-than-usual selection of funk, soul and jazz.
it was hosted at Royal Groove for a couple weeks as a low bitrate file – but here’s a nicer high quality version. also this time around, I’ve included a “bonus track” at the end of the mix….
I had been saving all sorts of “fight” word samples for a couple years – so I had tons and tons left unused when the mix was done – I tried to smash them all into the final bonus track. it’s quite chaotic – but fun.
this mix – full of groove-jitsu technique… upper blocks, roundhouse kicks and some fantastic beats… plenty of fight related word samples rounding it all out. fetch your black belts and polish up the katanas… groove-jitsu!
only after the fact did I discover that DJ Hickory Dickory Doc (aka. DJHDD here at b00mb0x) had “beat me to the punch” on this theme – so check his quality Kung Faux mix out too (http://www.b00mb0x.org/wordpress/category/dj-hickory-dickory-doc/).
anyways — enjoy!
This made my willy stand up crazy stiff, like
ha! thanks rogan… always enjoy praise from dj’s more talented than myself — everyone check out his Neon Tetra mix!
Another great mix from King Megatrip. Nice work mister. Always top shelf!
as always a very enjoyable aural experience
hiii iiiiii-yaa aah
worrrrrrrrr
and other kung fu noises
Gotta love the kung-fu!
This style of music’s not my absolute favourite (I like things a little more electronic) but the mix quality shines through and I love me some novelty samples.
The last track is flippin’ genius too.
Now, prepare for my thousand-hand slap…
I lurves my Kung Fu samples. It does not suprise me that King Megatrip & I cross over on theme mixes sometimes, we not only have similiar tastes but have both been avid collectors of spoken word samples for many years. Indeed, Strictly Kev mentions that many of the spoken word samples for Ninja Tune & Solid Steel tracks are from King Megatrips large collection.
Thanks for the shout out 🙂 🙂
Up there with the best of your previous mixes Matt. If Neon Tetra wasn’t so fuckin good, this would have been my fav mix of the month so far.
King,
(Sensei! )
Just working through your mix catalogue and wanted to say that this is amongst your finest work. Really well put together, with your usual soupcon of great vocal samples.
I had forgotten what a fantastic tune “Theme from SWAT” was – total genius. Love that whole blaxpoitation sound.
Add experience of karate, aikido, krav maga and kick boxing (a looong time ago) and this mix brought back some great memories.
Hope this features as an “Archive Mix in The Spotlight”.
Brilliant.
