b00mb0x version 9 part 2

There’s a few changes to b00mb0x as part of this version, which is taking a lot longer to complete than I had hoped.
Anyway, the most important one is registered user voting. If you’re registered and logged in (the links are on the right of the main page, under meta), you can vote on mixes on a scale of one to ten. This should really help us out with the awards at the end of the year, which had been getting really complicated with multiple rounds of voting and the single transferrable voting system with 3 weighted preferences, screening for fraud and the voting bringing the rest of the site to a halt for two months. There will still be a special awards vote of some sort, but it will be a helluva lot simplier and shorter because of this (I hope!). So if you haven’t registered, you may want to.
The next one is collapsing AJAX comments on any page, even the main page. Clicking the + link beside the comments, will load the comments in the middle of the page, right there, without you needing to go to the individual mix page. You still need to do that to comment, though.
The last change is clickable smilies in the comments area. Nuff said. Feedback, negative and positive is welcomed :).
funny story, in the course of finishing the work tonight, I managed to ban myself from commenting, they all go straight to the spam queue. Doesn’t seem to be a fix for it either, I had to disable the antispam software that was doing VERY well and install something that is promised to be as good. 😳
This is great.
Now all you mother effers too lazy to leave comments can at least vote 😆
And look at that smiley… that is money right there.
Cool.
Really great additions.
you can vote for yourself, but we still screen for fraud/multiple voting
It’s like Hot or Not, with extra guilt!
I’m so 1999…
Gentleman’s agreement not to vote for ourselves, I presume…..pretty pointless.
this is just a test 😯
Ok, added collapsable archives, it will collapse all the way down to the individual mix. I\’ll look into to allowing that from the mixer menu too. Anyway, the site is now quite AJAX/javascript heavy, so please report any bugs or really slow loading times in this thread.
Ok, we had 300 ratings already so I’ve added aggregates at the side under ratings. They don’t really make much sense yet, but they will soon as more votes for people’s old and new favourites come in.
Bong and I both had browser crashes today from the site. I *think* the issue was the collapsable archives, so I changed it so it doesn’t load every bloody mix, it just loads down to the month. I’ve turned caching on, which should speed everything up. But please please please let me know if you have browser crashes or weird behaviour.
if you link your page elsewhere, the links changed because I’ve been messing with the order of things 😐
hi naz,
two comments for the voting:
there has to be an minimum vote limit for “highest rated” – otherwise the one-10star-vote mixes will outperform other mixes all the time.
an option to change ones vote would be nice – at the first time i just clicked somewhere in the bar because i thought it would bring me to a separate dialoge for the voting…
Hi Lucid,
Thanks for the feedback. The script unfortunately isn’t mine, I’m not a programmer at all and I mainly integrate plugins coded by others for site functions like these. So editing your vote is not an option, unless it’s covered in a future upgrade to the plugin (probably unlikely).
Your second point is a very good one, which is why theres the most rated field also. I haven’t been able to find a function to exclude those mixes with low numbers of votes but high ratings. I will look again tonight tho. I had figured that time would end up telling with regards to the votes, with the 10 point single votes being a popular link and then voted on (which probably would bring down the averages).
Anyway, good feedback, thanks a lot
😀
I’ve left a message on the developers forum asking if he has any code that will filter the highest rated list to include only those mixes with 5 ratings and above.
I’ll let you know if I get an answer
the developer says its not possible, but likes the idea of thresholds. it may well be included in a future upgrade.
