love the cover, love the mix.
Matrix Mix 30 – Make It Funky (66:21, 93Mb)
This one has deliberately little mixing and no samples – I decided just to let the tracks speak for themselves.
I had four main sources for these tracks. If you know them, then this mix will probably be a little too familiar, otherwise…enjoy.
Tracklist:
01. Bill Withers – I’m Her Daddy
02. Main Ingredient – Euphrates
03. Chambers Brothers – Funky
04. Nancy Wilson – Ode To Billy Joe
05. Marlena Shaw – California Soul
06. Rodriguez – Sugarman
07. James Brown – Shhh (For A Little While)
08. The Beatles – The End
09. Beck – Where It’s At
10. Rolling Stones – Fingerprint File
11. David Bowie – Speed Of Life
12. John Lennon – How Do You Sleep?
13. Rare Earth – I Just Want To Celebrate
14. The Buddy Rich Orchestra ft Cathy Rich – The Beat Goes On
15. Eddie Harris – Listen Here
16. Scientist / Jammy – No Good
17. Billy Paul – East
18. El Chicano – Viva Tirado
19. Cymande – One More Time
20. DJ Vadim – Ghetto Rebel
21. The Beatles – Flying
Super cool funky crate diggers mix. Pure class , and inventive to boot. A keeper
one for outside, sizzling bangers etc
;D
Recognise the ‘I got it come get it’ tunes but that in no way is a bad thing. Another classic.
Cheers Matrix!
Just placed another source; Tommy Guerreo’s Another Late Night. Classic mix again
For me, Main Ingredient’s ‘Euphrates’ is the killer track – gets me every time. Spot on with the sources Stu; the sources for tracks 1-19 are:
Tommy Guerrero’s Another Late Night.
Various David Holmes mixes (Radio 1 Essential Mixes mainly – that’s why Track 4 jumps in a bit late; it’s to get rid of Tong’s voice).
The 2 Essential Mixes by Air in 1998.
William Orbit Essential mix.
tracks 20 and 21 were my idea – I’ve got to do something, right?
Next up, back to my teenage roots with a rock mix.
Thought i recognised the scratching from the DH tunes! I should have got the Air EM’s but i still havent heard William Orbits so there was no chance.
Real nice mix and it gives me some ideas for my first mix!!
Looking forward to the rock mix…..i think!
At first listen, I wasnÂ’t sure about this piece. After a few Hearings, I put this on my “All Times” list. There are a lot of great—but not overplayed tunes on this. ItÂ’s a “My Folks, Your Folks, Me and Your folks” type of flare. At times, I wished that you had spent a little more time on transitions. You know, “Do like you do, Man”
By the way, I love “all” your Covers. I see that you hold a wealth of other outstanding talents also..
Stay-up
Thanks for the comments and glad you persevered. Interesting…I thought this mix had died quietly in the corner. One of the reasons I didn’t attempt too many transitions was because it came mostly from just 4 sources and was therefore much more of a compilation in concept. I didn’t want to pretend there was much Matrix in it – it was just tunes that I really loved at the time.
I must have downloaded this and forgotten to listen to it. Sure glad I did now!
As you say, the tracks speak for themselves – good work!
Reallly liked this mix, great selection of tracks and mixing. Did David Holmes do a version of that Sugar man track?Â
